Salary cap expectations

I'm jealous of how much you guys understand this stuff.. wish I could contribute. I love this type of thing but just haven't made myself a student.

Mass props.
We all have our niche. You are unmatched in your assessment of HS recruits & college talent.

I wish I had your faith in the front office. I believe at least one of them will return, and I lay awake at night worrying they both will.... The voices in my head say I should see someone about getting help.
Back AWAY from the ledge. I think the collapse at the end of the season was a return to reality for the Jazz FO. KOC has talked about cap space flexibility. Dennis Lindsey is a big proponent of advanced metrics. We also read reports that Hayward and Favors were told to get ready for more responsibility and leadership next season. All of that talk leads me to believe neither Jefferson nor Millsap are strong candidates to return.

Please be right. I really don't want either back. And I also have no interest in Mo being a Jazz player ever again.

GVC has become the new kenwood. I think the Jazz will be lightly involved in the market. They won't renounce their holds unless/until a deal comes along. They'll explore some trade options, most of which would have them taking on a player without giving salary back. But nothing substantial will happen until the trade deadline when non-playoff teams will be desperate to cut costs. I really don't see AL or Paul coming back. Too expensive for too little impact.

Then the Jazz are just going to sit on their holds until Millsap and Jefferson are signed, either with the Jazz or elsewhere. I suppose there's no harm in holding off on renouncing them until a move requiring them to do so was decided upon. I think I'd prefer the Jazz to renounce immediately, to be up front about the direction they're going in.

So when an S&T opportunity comes along, they're ****ed. They'll keep the holds until they have someone else to re-sign OR those players sign elsewhere. Being up front is of little benefit.

Exactly. There's still a REMOTE possibility a team over the cap could REALLY want Jefferson or Millsap and be willing to give Utah some value in return, perhaps an overpriced backup, which require them to add a quality young player and pick(s).

Sign and trades can still happen with renounced free agents, and since sign and trade rules state that the player can't receive Bird rights raises (max 4.5% instead of 7.5%), and the Jazz are well under the cap to sign Jefferson/Millsap/Mo Williams up to the maximum level and can receive MUCH more in salary than they could if they kept the holds, I don't know what you're talking about.

I didn't realize you could S&T a renounced player. I still don't think they'll renounce anyone until they have to.

Update:

Jazz are sitting on about 53.75M dollars for 12 players

Burke
Burks
Hayward
Favors
Kanter

Rush
Jefferson
Biedrins

Mcneal
Evans
Gobert
Williams

4.75 for minimum one more player, likely two, with a point guard needed.

2yr-6M for Carroll and min on another backup? Sounds like a plan.

K, more in depth.

Core 4:

Favors-6.008
Kanter-4.505
Hayward-3.452
Burks-2.202

Traded 3:

Jefferson-11.046
Biedrins-9.0
Rush-4.0

Drafted 2

Burke-2,032,300 @ 120%=2.439
Gobert-899,000 @ 120%=1.079

Other guys:

Marv-7.5
Evans-1.66
McNeal-.884

That puts it at 53.77 million dollars.

Cap is projected at 58.5.

Jazz have 4.75 million to spend.

But only if they want to. They're over the projected minimum now, so I don't expect them to spend it. They'll save some money to help cover the reduced ticket sales due to the less-than-stellar record they'll have this year.

They will need to spend some of it. They are still one player short of a full roster. Maybe they'll just sign Neto?

Agreed - Watson and Tinsley for min to fill out a roster.
