So I want to talk about the Mormons

A) Take a wild guess as to how non-Roman Catholic citizens in Rome feel about the Vatican.

B) I think Utah state law has more legal jurisdiction than the representative state of Rome. Not a straight comparison....from what I can tell at least.



Like Arch, I get that people definitely do demonize the Mormon faith-- but I don't think it's anything outside of what you'd expect from any minority living in a similar circumstance. That's pretty much my perspective on the issue.
 
I'm a mormon and I'm much more annoyed by the idiocy of the legislature than by the non Mormons that gripe about church influence. I don't have an issue with people governing according to their beliefs until those beliefs start to unreasonably effect those who believe differently. I'm not big on legislating morality. If you're going to trumpet "agency" as a cornerstone of God's plan, don't withhold it from everyone else.

Archie, I'm not trying to offend your delicate sensibilities, but I kind of do think the church is evil. I think that the higher-ups have greater access to the inconsistencies and the decisions made to continue to play it for all it's worth. I get that my view is from a perspective biased against the church. So, take it for what it's worth, which isn't much. But I'm not a fan of the LDS organization. I'm not and it comes through pretty regularly. It's real and not manufactured. So, please, don't agree with it, but don't discount it as blind hatred.

My family on my father's (Brigham Young's) side are some of the smartest (I list that first for a reason), nicest and most honorable people I've ever met. I have no doubt that much of their character is a result of their faith. They are VERY LDS, mostly living in small town southern Utah (in places that were settled by our ancestors) where their way of life is seldom questioned or challenged by outsiders.

I don't agree with the LDS church and I do not believe their teachings are true. I've lived here almost my entire life. Bitching and moaning about "the church" is one of my favorite pastimes. Again, to me it feels like bitching and moaning about my brother, but I can see how it isn't taken that way.

Was talking in a modern sense, no Mormons have in common with teh blacks sense.

I went to high school in northern Mississippi and I can assure you from first hand experience that they are very noticed and very hated by some. My experience showed me it was far more intense outside Utah than in it.
