End Compulsory Education?

And how would leaving the job in their incompetent hands be better? I can't think of a better reason to continue compulsory education.

If you are going to jump in I suggest you actually read the damn thread.

Angry.. little.. with some issues? Understatement of all time.

I credited the vast majority of humanity for caring, and your profession for being the only possible out for children of parents who don't. You should take that as an honor, sir. I have more respect for teachers than just about any other profession.

We don't formulate destroy-the-schools-policy just because a few bad parents exist. Yes, they are out there but I've never met a single one, and children of those are better off in the hands of the state, and that means you.

I don't know why I'm responding to this other than it seems to have unintentionally struck a cord and I'm more genuine than that. I only responded to your previous posts out of sheer boredom, staring at a blank computer screen for way too long. It was a counter punch to your known trolling, one I thought you could take in good stride. If you're truly offended then I'm sorry, if you're being typical you then **** off fake tough guy.

Definitely still angry. Go out and breathe some air, Bro.

If a student doesn't want to be in school and intends to drop out that student will not do their work, will fail their classes, and will be a disruption. Forcing a teenager to attend high-school will not necessarily further their education. I say allow kids who want to drop out to do so and use the money saved for higher education and G.E.D. tutoring.
A few years of making minimum wage is exactly what some kids need to take their education seriously.

Elementary school (or equivalent)should be compulsory. Everyone needs to learn the three R's.
Agreed. The students in this mold now essentially use school as social time. They know when they go home they are watching kids for parents or going to work themselves. So school is where they chill out and rest/socialize. I'd love to see us do what a lot of other countries do and that is have the option to switch to a vocational trade school right around junior high age. Some people aren't meant for higher ed and that's not a slight. Let those people progress to their spot in life ASAP.

How many of you either send your kids to school ONLY because it's legally required and/or were sent to school ONLY because it was legally required?

None?

Okay...point given to franklin.

I don't have kids, but I would send them to school even if it weren't required by law. I'm not arrogant enough to think I could teach my kids better than anyone else.

Note that I didn't say what school I'd send them to, just that I'd send them to school.

Moreover, I wasn't sent to school because it was required by law, I was sent to school to keep me out of my parents hair.

But really.. how can you take this guy seriously? The parents are the problem, so lets get rid of something that benefits the children? Really? Really????

Stoplights are used to get people to stop, and allow traffic to move smoothly. But that's causing people to look at the light, not their surroundings. So lets get rid of stoplights?

That's what I'm thinking. The more neglectful parents are going to be the last ones to let their kids stay home.

Exactly. I always feel bad for those kids whose parents make them come the last few days of school when everyone knows you don't have to be there.

So, if they're the last ones to let their kids stay home, what's stopping them from renting a motel room for the day and locking them in there? or a storage locker... or worse?

There's a lot worse place a kid can be.

Cost.

Slow down, I'm agreeing with you. My question was rhetorical/directed at the mouth-breathers that are hell-bent weakening the fabric of our society.

Plenty of high school kids go to school because they are legally required. They ticket kids these days for skipping school. If a kid wants to avoid the ticket he/she will attend school and not apply themselves. They will be a disruption to their classmates. No one gains anything by forcing a know it all punk to attend school but a lot is lost.

So your answer is to give up on any teenager with a attitude? To remove them from the educational system? All that does is guarantee they end up that punk.

No way, make him stay. That way, he can drag two or three of his buddies down with him, all while ****ing up the allotted time and resources that kids, who want to be there, desperately need.

Maybe my high school experience was unusual, but I don't remember having to deal with any statist indoctrination OR terrible kids dragging the whole school down with them.

It's a fine line. Fun to talk to seniors and they always admit to how stupid they were as sophs. A lot of kids turn it around when it looks hopeless. But then there are the tools that don't make it and do drag down their classmates and said classmates are better off when those tools dropout or go to jail or whatever.

What I've never understood is when kids miss class but then loiter at the school.
