What's new

Open Scrimmage October 5 at 4 p.m. MT!

Turk -- Couldn't dominate Bieds-Evans-D-leaguer.
eh? Kanter did dominate those guys. 5-8 from the floor, 4-7 or 5-9 from the line in a short scrimmage. He ran the floor, got deep position, demanded the ball, and took decisive action. Put loads of pressure on the D and was productive and efficient.

Ya this...... but he isn't a vet

I'm telling you what I saw from the stands. My youngest is sick though so we left early (and he required lots of attention). I could have missed stuff.

I expected those two to dominate and they didn't. 5-8 against Goob-Evans isn't the best line IMO.

franklin's notes

Richard Jefferson -- I never knew he had asthma. He was spraying the inhaler during those for show warm up drills. Looked like the best player out on the floor. Excellent court vision.

Evans -- Outjumped Kanter for the tipoff, of course.

Biedrins -- Already rubbing his gut during warm up. Get another drink, kid.

Turk doing the Dirk -- spotted shooting the turnaround one legger during shoot around. Couldn't dominate Bieds-Evans-D-leaguer.

Goob -- couldn't post up the D-Leaguer, maybe it was Bryan Cook, not sure.

Favors -- couldn't take Evans on the low block twice in a row. Him and Kanter should have dominated Evans-Goob. Nope.

Corbin was running the right p-n-r lower than usual. Hayward made a nice rotation pass to the top of the key for a three.

Hayward -- Came out limping, obviously not into the exhibition. He screwed around a lot during the for show warm up drills, instigated the other starters to screw around too. Punked Turk at the dance off a little bit.

Trey Burke -- Kid looked good. Real good. 2nd best player on the floor next to R. Jeff. Drive and dish looked nice.

franklin -- failed CoTy autograph requisition.

Burks and Rush didn't do anything to stand out to me. Whoever #3 is looked like a baller though. That D-Leaguer was making a bunch of plays in the first half. They should sign him.

These are interesting notes. A few questions though.
1) Did Biendrins not look like a rag doll when guarding Kanter to you? The guy had 15 & 5 and went to the line at will.
2) What on earth did you see from Trey Burke? Machado #30 dominated him in my opinion. Trey Burke #3, missed shot after shot.

Sorry to hear about the little one!

Gobert isn't a vet, but he has an enormous reach 9'7". He is a very good defensive player and blocks a ton of shots and challenges everything. He will surprise people this year with his defense. He is an athletic big with one of the highest reaches of NBA history, over two inches higher than Shaq's.

Thought trey looked better. He just needs to finish and he's actually quicker then I remember. He just needs to get comfortable. I think he's putting to much pressure on himself.

He got this. I'm really glad he's brought national media attention.

Gobert should get Biedrins minutes.

Clark looked like he was trying to prove seething instead of playing his game.

Your incessant trolling will probably do me in soon.

IIRC, Kanter took it at Bieds hard enough to board and put back his own miss. Andris plays good enough defense that if you saw Kanter working him then that's definitely a positive.

Trey - I was impressed with his ability to get into the lane at will and pass in traffic. The kid is so small and underathletic that he's going to have a real hard time getting his shot off, but he seemed to find a way to put up good looks even if they missed.

Funny story #1, a group of kids behind us were saying he isn't a true seven footer and his reach is like 8'6". WTF?

Funny story #2, I heckled Hayward for an honest answer to Locke/fan's question about how many points he'd score: "I'm just looking for the wins" or whatever. A fan in front took issue with me and said he really liked that answer. This kid needs missionaries and a copy of the Book of Tankon.

Honestly real games are so different from these things it's hard to draw any true meaningful impressions. But it's all we have. Til Tuesday. I was encouraged by Burke.

Another note, is Kanter the reason we're not extending Favors? Kanter is up for his extension at the end of year and he seems to be much more deserving of a large contract. Though I'm contradicting myself drawing an inference from the scrimmage

5-8 (with 4 or 5 shooting fouls drawn, including an and-one) was Kanter by himself. Kanter was never matched up against Evans. Are you sure you were there?

As for Favors, he played well within himself. Made the right play consistently when he had the ball (from the high post and facing up from above the short corner mostly), collecting at least a couple assists, and neutralized his opposite number (although it was mostly Jeremy Evans). Keep in mind, Favors didn't play with an effective PnR guard (Lucas, Hudson, Holliday, Clark).

Working now!

Clicking on play didn't work.... I had to click on the lower left of the video for some reason and then open it in my video viewer

After reading the last few critiques of the scrimmage, I must say that this is shaping up to be quite the successful tank!

Bring it philly, pheonix, sacramento, orlando, boston and the rest...... we are ready for ya

Haha... This.

I realize he wasn't matched up directly against Evans, Favors was. I don't really care to debate it, I was just telling what I saw which was overall a pretty sloppy game . Between Hayward being injured and Kanter coming off injury and a bench of scrubs that should be expected.

One reason too the hayward, burks, and Burke might not have played as well is that they had Evans and biedrens. They didn't demand a double team or anything.

A couple of other observations:

Hayward took a shot to the chops that I heard on row 54. He looked pist.

The double block on Enes by Gobert was terrific. Kanter had been having his way, with Biedrens, but had to change his ways with Gobert in the game. Gobert absorbed a lot of contact and still made a play. I could see some potential there. Of all the rookies and new guys I am most excited to watch him.

The Jazz dancers are overwhelmingly blonde this year. Only two brunettes and one of them was kind of a hybrid.

Lol.

I this was an obvious joke, but some are taking it serious.

What do I know

eHe ran the floor

Remember his rookie year when he used to trot down the floor? He runs the floor like a deer now. Malone was one of the best, if not the best, floor running power forwards of all time. I hope he's drilling Kanter with his approach to the game.

What do I know

I never know when to take Frank seriously. He's a sharp individual with a peculiar sense of humor that sometimes borders on being characteristically esoteric.

Good luck seeing gobert play this year
