Hayward in Crunch Time

42 points

Did you notice that Durant had some bad possessions closing the game? Near air ball of the front of the rim and a couple of turnovers? Looks like even the great ones can have a bad night too.

42 points, Bad night.

Joking?

My biggest complaint with Gordon was his chucking. He ran down, pulled up for a three without any passing at all. He kept trying to play hero ball and had the patience of a tinsy fly.

That is so silly I think you may be joking. But if not, I ask how many chuckers take 13 shots in 28 minutes with 5 assists? Besides the buzzer beater, when else did he run down and pull up for a 3 without passing?

I'm pretty sure Corbin should attempt to ruin Hayward's confidence by benching him down the final stretch in the first ****ing game.

Screw the year of discovery, let's mess around with the rotations like a child playing with a box of barbie dolls.

I thought you were a Corbin fanboy???

my point was that you cannot point to a couple games over multiple seasons to demonstrate clutch. Gordon is not clutch, neither was CJ. I would never compare the two because GH is obviously better. My point has been that some people are expecting too much from GH. He is a solid roll played who will occasionally step up and have big games. do you disagree?

No. Your point was that someone who is "clutch" is always clutch, and always makes shot when the game is on the line.

Lmao. What a ridiculous notion. Even Jordan said he missed more game-winners than he drained.

You then justified Durants lack of clutch shots last night by saying "well he drained 42!!"

I don't care if he drained 62. It doesn't say anything as to whether any of those shots were clutch or not. Scoring output does not equal clutch ness. How many PPG did Robert Horry average in his numerous playoff campaigns?

Right.

What we need is someone with a crystal ball to tell us exactly which d-league scrub will go off for an all-nba career night and when, sign that guy to a 10-day contract, rinse and repeat, and ride the perfect prognostications to the title!! Because everyone should have known all this right, I mean after the game it means it should have been obvious to everyone beforehand as well if we weren't all so stupid. Duh!

Jordan was clutch- you are being ridiculous. where did I say that EVERY opportunity had to be hit to be clutch? Jordan was clutch MANY, MANY, MANY times. does this always mean he hit the game winner? NO it does not, it means that he carried his team and gave them an opportunity every time. No consider GH, he has not been clutch in many games, as a matter of fact when the stakes were high he has had poor games. I am not a GH hater, just sayin he aint clutch. agree to disagree.

Check out Paul George's shooting percentages at the beginning of last season. If he is able to adjust, it will probably take at least a month.

Let me just come out, and say it. I have my doubts about Hayward. It's clear he's a nice player, but how far will/can he go?

I think Favors, Kanter, AND Burks are more valuable to us right now.

Oh, come on. What did Burks do to command more money than Hayward?

Well of course they are. There are very few players who are as good as 3 players combined....

lol. I will wait until this season has played out a little more to decide if the other three are better than Hayward or not. I agree about Favors, but I want to see consistent production from Kanter and Burks first.

The "ceiling" for those three players are much higher as well. With Hayward, he's gotten much more playing time than the others mentioned so it's pretty much WYSIWYG at this point.

and I agree. This will be a fluid process that I expect to change. I'm just going by what I've seen as of today. There is still a good chance Hayward explodes, and Burks becomes and inconsistent headache.
I still have doubts about everyone right now, but Hayward is the biggest question mark I have. He's being touted as the man by many, and I'm not sure I've ever seen that in him yet.

I think the only time I have ever seen that in him was when he came back from injury last season, and was wearing that wacky shoulder shirt thing. He played like a total bad *** for 10 games. I thought for sure he was going to be great then. But 10 games out of 200 is a very small percentage.

What has Hayward done to command over 10 per year? If you pay Hayward over 8, it is on potential.

Burks shows some things that Hayward will never have. One, is making layups in the lane. Two, taking his man off the dribble. Those two things go a long way in today's NBA with the rules in place.

Hayward is a nice role player. That's it. Burks is probably nothing more than a role player either. BUT, there is no reason to overpay for Hayward. If he blows up, you are going to pay him what he is worth. If he doesn't, you won't end up making a team crippling decision too early. If Burks blows up, then you have an asset in Hayward to move. It's all about options. Extending Hayward now, for over 8 per, limits your options.

I am certainly not on "Hayward is future star and worth more then 10mil" bandwagon but lets give him at least a full season where he is primary option at the end of the games before declaring him not clutch. A bit premature thread I must say...
