When is this a wasted season?

Mission Accomplished

If we focus our development time on three players ~ Favors, Hayward, and Burke

If we miss getting a real game changer in the draft ~ Mainly a top three pick

If we miss the playoffs ~ Which is more than likely going to happen

What needs to be accomplished in order to call this season a success in your mind?

To me personally we shouldn't pick and choice who are future stars are of the core 5. The should all be receiving 30 + minutes a game. This would be a success but it is very unlikely the Corbin will change his strips.

Next I think it is top two pick or bust for me on the tank. Randle could be a nice player. But, we would have to move players which I see as defeating the point of developing the core bigs.

We are missing the playoffs this is a FACT.

Favors, Kanter, Hayward, Burks and Burke all play at least 30 minutes per game with at least 4 minutes per game with that lineup on the court together and I'd be happy with the results either way. Unfortunately, I think that DL will have to either trade away Marvin/Jefferson or fire Corbin for this to happen. I'd love to see more of Evans, Garrett and Gobert as well, but that might be pushing it for Corbin.

Other than that, ending up with a top 3 pick should be the only other goal this year. Jazz need a game-changer, and I don't see them getting that after pick#5.

I'll see it as a success if Corbin is gone. Right now he is winning games but at the cost of developing the youth. The guys we are trying to build this team around are being pushed aside for a guy that has about 0% chance of being back next year. Same problem I've had with Corbin all along. His loyalty to older players is out of control. I don't even think Jefferson is outplaying Burks anymore most of the time. But he's still starting and still playing more minutes way too often.
.
Last night Jefferson played 40 ****ing minutes. Looking at the stats (I only watched the 4th quarter last night) It sure seems like Burks outplayed him but got 13 less minutes. He was the worst on the team in +/- and had less points/rebounds/steals than Burks in 13 more minutes.
.
So if your all about the tank then Jefferson was not the problem last night. But since I'm all about the future of this team in any way possible Jefferson getting 40 ****ing minutes and leading the team in minutes has got to ****ing stop. What a waste to play him that much.

This season is only a waste if the Jazz end up with something like the 10-14th pick, get there by playing vets over youth and don't make any waves in free agency.

Obviously there are outcomes that are clearly more desirable and better long term for the Jazz than others. But a waste of a season would be hard to accomplish.

This is a very real possibility

And we've certainly never seen that before.

Why so hard to do? We've done it the past two and a half seasons.

The last two season we have vets of a higher caliber than Jefferson and Williams. This year has been clearly turned over to the youth.

Burke is at 30 mpg
Hayward is at 35.8 mpg
Favors is at 31.7 mpg
Burks is at 27 mpg
Kanter is at 25.9 mpg.

Or are you really trying to say that Biedrins, Jefferson, Williams and Lucas are as good as Harris, Millsap, Big Al and Williams? This year, aside from jefferson and williams, has not been turned over to the vets. I do not expect Williams and Jefferson to both be on the team after the trade deadline. Corbin has no choice to but to play the "youth" starter minutes. Three of them are over 30 mpg.

Can a waste of a season be done? Sure but I do not call anything other than a 1-3 pick a waste of a season.

I don't want to discount the strides made by Burk, Burke and Favors this season, but without a game changer in the draft, this season will be a squandered opportunity.

I have a lot of faith in DL - I think he'll make a lot of "smart moves". But for various reasons I don't think this franchise can or will make a "big move" to bring in a legit number 1 option via trade of FA. Utah will need a little luck in that department.

Well, at least last year Williams was one of them. Among others include Randy Foye, Josh Howard, Raja Bell, CJ Miles, etc. You can make an argument that Millsap and Jefferson were better, but it's not a mutually exclusive idea. Their minutes in many circumstances were heavier for no reason and there was an inability to open up any minutes by playing Millsap at the 3 for any stretch. Right now Corbin is forced to play young guys at numerous spots, but he's also playing his vets as much as possible where available (fortunate for us he only has two this season... and I'm amazed he hasn't turned Biedrins into the third). Our guys are having to develop this year because they weren't developed in earlier years. And what, exactly, do we currently have to show for those years, aside from an inexperienced team now?

The only reason the season isn't "turned over to the vets" is because there aren't any. Let's just pray we don't pick up Jermaine O'Neal somehow.

Works for me. So if outside of two people why worry about it? As of right now it is not an option. It will be interesting to see if Lindsey lets it ride or if he makes some moves to secure the tank. I think at this point we all know where we stand on that topic.

I think DL is a reasonable guy but I don't know how much, if any, final say he has. I think the rest of the FO is okay with the tank, but only passively -- which isn't too surprising as mostly everything the franchise has done since Larry stepped down / died has been passive. I'm still uncertain of Corbin's fate with the franchise and how much say DL has in that. Burks, Gobert and especially Kanter can play more and as you said, it's win-win. There's absolutely no argument not to play those guys. Being inexperienced or not ready doesn't even apply (que "teh efforts!!!").

I think that we saw Lindsey take the reigns this offseason. The Jazz have appeared to be much more aggressive and foward thinking once Sloan left and KOC stepped back. Lindsey may have input now from Corbin, Sloan, KOC, Rigby and miller but I think he is running the show now. I hope so at least lol.

Do the Jazz still play?

I haven't seen a game in maybe a month or two.

I merely just check box scores and this forum to see if we lost.

Wake me up when next season begins and we have a franchise player.

If we don't trade Marvin and Jefferson asap!

If let Corbin enough games to prove that he is a decent coach and has a chance to stay next year!

If we spoil the tank letting in the game veterans as Marvin and Jeff!

If Enes become just a solid bench player!

nah. You can stay asleep and miss it all.

I'm sorry but including this one is just silly. Way to early to tell and if he does and Burks, Hayward, Favors and Burke are all legit is it still a wasted season?

If we don't obtain a franchise player I think most here in Utah will remain asleep. There are a ton of "fans" disguised in green seats. I've never seen so much green in the Delta Center. Literally, no one talks about the Jazz anymore. Fandom is at an all time low, IMO. If the Utes make a run in the next year or so while the jazz remain boring and suck, they will continue to dig a deeper hole for themselves.

If the jazz hope to remain in this market then they need to obtain a franchise player this summer. It's that simple. 3 straight poor/mediocre seasons without any real hope of improving drastically by obtaining a franchise player who can sell jerseys and tickets will spell doom for this small market franchise.

What does it mean legit? Role players? We need All-Star caliber players!
