That's kind of the nature of the beast. Someone runs a place and makes the rules. The end user decides whether they find the rules too restrictive to the point where their enjoyment is being sufficiently hampered, and draws the line somewhere. If I paid the bills here I wouldn't give a flying **** if there was a profanity filter and would let people post just about any pic that wasn't total nudity (mostly just to avoid some parental warning type thing). But not being able to do those things hasn't kept me from my enjoyment of the place.
In this case the rules are what they are, and have been for an eternity, and are unlikely to change except for some minor tweaks here and there. The funny thing is that the posters and personalities of this board have changed a ton for the 12 or whatever years I've been thru in the various incarnations of this place, but it still keeps moving along for whatever reason, and more funny is the people who get banned and seem to hate the rule system the most keep asking to come back.
I don't care about the rules at all. It is the way they are enforced that bugs me. You have obvious trolls like Carolina jazz and a few others, who the management refuses to do a damn thing about, and then they get this personal vendetta against a couple of guys and try to force their heavy hand into making the website exactly what they want.
What really matters here is that there is obviously some sort of purpose for Jason keeping this website up and running. He does not post much, so it's obviously not a passion of his. If it is a business, then act like a business, and don't run people out of the business when they come shopping. Nobody cares about the profanity filter, it's totally fine to filter profanity. No one cares that you can't post naughty pics here. What people do care about is when moderators, management and owners act like ****ty people to the posters on their board. If you want to get more posters, treat them like real people. I guarantee the trolling will go down, and people will not use ridiculous methods to get the attention of the management.
I have said multiple times that it is getting less and less enjoyable posting on this site, and reading things here. I blame two things: first, the mods treat people like they are beneath them, and that is not enjoyable to read. Secondly, and something the management of this site obviously has zero control over, is the crwppy product on the floor in games.
If you are going to have rules and selectively enforce them, then it's going to look bad no matter what your intentions were. If you want to be dicks to certain posters, then just be dicks to everyone, or don't be a dick at all.
