Circumventing the filter question

So I have a question for you.

I'm not allowed to type things like edited, even if that's how I say it in real life sometimes because it's circumventing the filter.

In that case, why are things such as 'WTF' allowed? We all know what it stands for, and we're just posting it because we can't post the actual phrase. Isn't that circumventing the filter as well?

In general we follow similar guidelines as to what is permissible, say on network TV or over the radio. Saying "double-you tee eff" is perfectly acceptable there. And the F can potentially stand for various non-profane things.

What the frank kind of response is that, Colton?

Hmm. I have never in my short experience with this WTF thing thought about it as doubleyouteeeff. It was always the open version. Otherwise it would not be funny would it be? Actually, its funnier than the original thing to my ears/eyes when reading.

Preventing profanity for the sake of morals and the growth of children is perfectly legit to me. But words like dick, wiener, and *** can be used pretty badly if anyone wants it, no? After all, the aim is to write down the shapes, that mean the thing we want it to mean and let people of its meaning. Come swallowing bros. tea dude beach ace huor. Catch my drift?

Absolutely. That's why the rule isn't just "no profanity", it's to keep things appropriate for a general audience.

Appropriate Content: Members should remember this board is aimed at a general audience. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated. Excessive or graphic sexual innuendo will not be tolerated. Profanity is typically automatically filtered out; circumventing the automatic filter via e.g. creative misspelling will not be tolerated.

HUH?? I'm not so clear what the references to the "open" or "closed" versions are supposed to mean.

And I have NEVER EVER heard anyone say "double you tee eff" anywhere at all.

Only in Utah would it be viewed as "what the flip" or "what the fetch". No way in any other part of the world would anyone assume it meant anything but "what the ****".

Agreed that is the rule. Is an attempt made to determine whether the intent was specifically to bypass the filter, or simply expressing it colloquially, as it might be in everyday speech for that individual?

I'm not sure quite what you're asking. Are you talking about filter avoidance infractions or are you talking about inappropriate content infractions? If you're talking about the former: they are nearly always obviously when an individual has deliberately bypassed the filter via creative mis-spelling. If it's something that's not quite that obvious than typically a warning would given instead of an infraction (unless that individual has received previous warnings on that matter). If you're talking about the latter: if it's something that's inappropriate for a general audience, then what would it matter that it might be everyday speech for an individual?

"Freak" is another choice. Flatulence (or a shorter term). The shortened form of the Norse Goddess Frigga.

I wrote ******* the other day in some post and I was kind of surprised it's not filtered via the gestapobot.

Wow it's not. ******* ******* ******* *******.

*******

It's hypocritical if you ask me. Isn't revolutionizing the usage of ******* against the idea of a family site concept?
