Tyreke signed the offer sheet on July 3rd and the trade went thru July 10th

Link? This violates the CBA in 2 ways:

1. July 3rd is during the July moratorium, when players can't sign contracts or be traded.

2. Teams have 3 days to match offer sheets. If the offer sheet was signed on July 3rd (during the July moratorium...?), then Tyreke would already have been under contract with the Pelicans days before July 10th. You can't trade a player under contract with another team.


What I think likely happened is that Tyreke agreed to terms on an offer sheet with the Pelicans during the July moratorium (July 3rd, perhaps). Before being able to sign that offer sheet on July 10th (after the July moratorium), the Pelicans and Kings agreed to terms on a sign-and-trade. On July 10th, that sign-and-trade happened.

The offer sheet, however, was never signed.

so if Hayward "Agrees to" a verbal contract with the Celtics on the 3rd, the Jazz say they dont plan on matching on the 4th your going to be holding out hope until you see the ink dry on the 10th?

dont know why your so stuck on people signing things, verbal agreements at that point in the offseason are common. (and hold plenty of weight)

you come to an agreement, dont sign it because your going to shop around further. plus the teams dont always want to sign until other free agents have settled

No ****. You're the one who was disagreeing with me, explicitly stating that Tyreke had "signed" an offer sheet. If you knew he hadn't actually "signed" the offer sheet, why did you say he had? Why would you disagree with me at all?

I entered the thread to reply to billyshelby, who seemed to think the Jazz could trade Gordo before he becomes a free agent, thus giving the acquiring team the right of first refusal once Gordo becomes a free agent. I pointed out that that isn't possible. I then explained that players who sign offer sheets can't be traded. All of that is correct. The discussion was over right there. I'm not sure why you decided to disagree, continue to disagree, and then throw up strange irrelevant posts to try to save face. You were wrong, dude. No biggie. It happens to all of us.

Again, Gordo can't be traded, especially not as BillyShelby had suggested, where the acquiring team would be trading for Gordo BEFORE he becomes a restricted free agent. Gordo CAN be involved in a sign-and-trade AFTER the July Moratorium.

which simply is not how it goes down at that period in time, Verbal Agreements are very common in the offseason
