Messina says he would love coming to the Jazz!!!

It is the end of the month!!!

Sorry, meant end of May when Messina's season is over. When will it end, BTW? Anyone have the schedule for those playoffs?

And I do think Messina is exactly the kind of coach Utah needs. These young players need structure. They need to be held accountable. I don't see any prima donnas on the team that would have a problem with a strong-willed coach. That couldn't be said for every team where coaches have to cater to certain players. One of Vogel's problems is Stephenson happens to be a favorite of team brass so he has absolutely zero chance of controlling him. In the end, that was Sloan's problem with Deron. Before that, Jerry was 100% in charge.

Doesn't that mean he would love to be the coach of LA Lakers?
No, the quote was specifically in the paragraph when he was talking about the Jazz. Obviously his previous experience with LA and friendship with Kobe - combined with the sudden and unexpected resignation of D'Antoni - is now of huge concern. But Jazz were first and that may help. Even if they haven't sat down, I have no doubt Lindsey likely sent a message saying, "we'd like to talk, but finish out your season first."

Poor timing to be talking about a next possible employer while making a playoff run. Perhaps something is lost in translation.

A me è piaciuta l'esperienza ai Lakers, non so se mi verrà data l'occasione di fare il capo allenatore. Non è una cosa che posso controllare. Ma se me lo chiedessero, mi piacerebbe

I like what the Lakers are doing ("experience to/of the Lakers). I don't know if they'll offer me the head coaching job.. not something I can control.. but if they ask, I'd take it.

Sorry dudes. Looks like the Lakers are the frontrunners.

It's on May 18th. You can follow the Euroleague Finals from this link .

I my opinion, if a coach with a character like you've stated arrives, he would not have problem pulling the horses of the superstar candidate -if we can fantasize we have one by that time. But for Euro coaches, NBA's individual players are a different story.

He likes what the Lakers are doing??? That's a bunch of bull ****. On top of that, considering his team is in the process of a playoff run, his timing of these answers are unprofessional. Unless something is of with the translation, I think less of Messina now. That said I still would love to have him with the Jazz.

Johnny's translation IS off. So no need to skewer Messina.

The quote in Italian
Futuro ai Jazz? «Indiscrezioni, appunto. A me è piaciuta l'esperienza ai Lakers, non so se mi verrà data l'occasione di fare il capo allenatore. Non è una cosa che posso controllare. Ma se me lo chiedessero, mi piacerebbe»

You've mistranslated and taken his quote out of context. He liked his experience with the Lakers, not "he likes what the Lakers are doing." And the quote was made BEFORE D'Antoni resigned. As the lead-in to the section is "Future with the Jazz?" you have to assume - also given that D'Antoni was STILL coach of the Lakers - that the response referred to coaching the Jazz.

Sai parlare l'Italiano?

Yeah, maybe it would be more correct to say that he liked (past tense) his experience with the Lakers, but the comma indicates to me that he's still talking about the Lakers when talking about coaching in the NBA, not reverting the subject to the Jazz.

I stand by the interpretation that the subsequent sentences / phrases refer to the Lakers, not the Jazz; however, I guess it could be that he had some professional experience with the Lakers and thereby enjoyed an experience in the NBA in general, so an offer from the Jazz would pleasing.

I asked my Italian uncle (born and raised). He says the translation is that Messina would work for the Lakers if they called, and said the Jazz stuff were "indiscretions" (rumors).

I trust you and your unlcle's interpretation but it's like one of those ambiguous moments of a script. Especially considering that it was before D'Antoni news and the only clear and vacant head coach position to be the subject was of the Jazz, I believe there is a great chance that he was talking about the Jazz.

Still, I'm confused now after Johnny's translation, Core4's comments and your uncle's interpretation.
