On ESPN 700 radio today Chad Ford was on with Keith Stubbs for 17 minutes and they talked about the draft for a grand total of 3 1/2 minutes. For those who didn't hear it, here is a quick write up of what was said:

Keith Stubbs: The Jazz have the 5th pick in the NBA Draft. What would you do if you were in the Jazz position?

Chad Ford: Well, first off there is a chance that Dante Exum falls to #5 if the Magic decide to go big with Noah Vonleh or Marcus Smart who they really liked last year. If he does fall to 5, I think the Jazz have to jump all over it. Trey Burke is undersized for the position at point guard and Exum has the chance to become an all-star. Burke would come off the bench at the 1 for Exum, but they could play together at times with Burke at the 1 and Exum at the 2.

Chad then goes on to say:

If Exum isn't there at #5, my favorite player for the Jazz is Vonleh. With his athleticism and how physical he is, he would be a great fit with them at the power forward position. Being a stretch four, he would fit perfectly with Favors at the 5.

Continuing what was said earlier:

Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon, and Marcus Smart are all in the consideration still. I have heard the Jazz are not as high on Smart and Randle as other teams are though. You can certainly make the case for Gordon at #5, but I think Vonleh would be the best fit for them.

Regarding Exum again Chad brought this up:

The Portland Trail Blazers had drafted a young undersized point guard in the lottery in 2004 named Sebastian Telfair, in the 2005 draft they had the #3 pick and the best two players available were point guards Deron Williams and Chris Paul. They traded the #3 pick because they really liked Telfair and we all saw how that turned out. Not saying Trey Burke is Sebastian Telfair and not saying Exum is Chris Paul, but he certainly has the potential to be an all-star in the league.

Summarizing all of this up, Ford thinks the Jazz should take Exum at #5 if the Magic decide to go with Vonleh or Smart at #4.

If Exum is gone, he thinks Vonleh would be a perfect fit as a stretch four for the Jazz next to Favors.

At least for right now Smart and Randle are out of the discussion at #5.

Gordon is definitely still in the discussion at #5 along with Exum and Vonleh.

I wonder what Chad Ford would say about Vonleh off the record. He's really been pimping him big-time since the combine.

If Exum's there at 5, you draft him and don't look back. I would also support a move up to #4 to grab him that may/may not include Trey. I've been lukewarm on him since Day 1. I think he's serviceable but I don't think know if he's a franchise PG. Sounds like Exum would be.

Exum
Burks
Hayward
Kanter
Favors

That could be pretty nasty. Length, athleticism and skill all over the floor.

****! no talk of moving up

DL, like KOC before him, plays things close to the vest. I would not be shocked to see the jazz make moves on draft night. Look at last year. no one saw the Burke trade till it happened.

Im jealous of jazzfan1971 moving avatar

I love moving up. NFL draft - trade down, stock the depth chart, etc.

NBA? Go get your guy. It's a superstar league, do what you have to do to land the marquee guys when they come along.

I always like when people say Trey is too small for the position, like there is another position he'd be better sized at.
