Big 12 doesn't want BYU

With the Division 4 scenario, or whatever they are calling it, why would the NFL ever allow that to happen? Not saying they have complete control of the situation, but surely they have some influence. If you're the NFL, you want the opposite. You want the highest level of college football to have 500 teams so that more amateur players can develop and show whether they have NFL skills or not. You don't want 20,40, 60 less teams. That's 2300, 4600, or 6900 players every single year that aren't being potentially being developed to make your league money every year.

All smack talk aside, BYU finds themselves in such a weird spot. Trout is probably the only BYU fan who "doesn't care" if BYU finds a home inside a legit conference. Probably because he's the only Cougar fan happy with yearly trouncings of Middle Tennessee State. Yes, Utah is in the middle of getting their asses kicked in the PAC 12, but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel. It's probably a train, but at least they still own the Cougs.

Trust me, real BYU fans see what Utah did; how they sold their souls to be the third wheel, third place, wingman, slump busters. We don't want that. We have a future, hopes, aspirations. You tools are getting exactly what you deserve, and forever will. It makes my heart smile to know that Utah will never have Gold, and that the very best you can hope for is being the leftover dog **** that filters through the door mat of the SUCK12.

i got nothin

You don't need nothin', which makes all of their recent chest thumping and squawking so enjoyable. We've been on top before, and will be there again. They never have, nor will they ever.

Seriously.

Are Utah fans still that dense? BYU's scheduling was BCS level last year according to any strength of scheduling metrics. And it will be for the foreseeable future. They have deals with most of the Pac 12, they have deals with schools all over. There is no argument there. They are looking good for any year that is booked out by any program at this point. All of your issues seem to be that you don't equate Boise State, Fresno State, Cincinatti and all those types of teams as being as good as say.....Colorado. When in reality, they are better programs than 3/4's of the BCS trash that pretends they are good because they ride the coatails of the Alabamas and USCs of the world without realizing they still are only what they are. Just pure stupidity on your part, but par for the course.

If we're talking a decade down the road, then maybe there becomes an issue, it's not even close to being there yet.

Thank goodness Thriller hasn't muddied up this thread yet, because Duck is dropping bombs.

For some reason I imagine every BYU post is read with a lisp.

BYU is arrogant and self righteous. The Big12, and all the other large conferences, do not want to do business with them. See, BYU thinks they're better than everyone else, they think their TV deal, money, and moral high ground somehow gives them leverage when it comes to working with other teams/conferences. Well guess what BYU. No one really gives a rats *** about what you got. Sure, teams will use you for your TV deal and tolerate your insufferable attitude.

BYU is getting exactly what they deserve. They're getting picked last in gym class. You're the kid who's parents have to pay other kids to play with you. Why? Cause BYU is that dick no one wants to play with. Unless it get them on ESPN.

It's funny how people butt-hurt about the mormon religion have their sport judgements clouded. Lol.

That said, beep BYU.

BYU's strength of schedule is at least as strong as it was when they were in the Mountain West, and undoubtedly far stronger than it would be in the current Mountain West.

Here's the strength of schedule ratings for the past 10 years according to the first website I found with historical data:

https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/ranking/strength-of-schedule-by-team
2004-5 50
2005-6 57
2006-7 62
2007-8 56
2008-9 40
2009-10 43
2010-11 78
2011-12 65
2012-13 48
2013-14 40

So last year ties the strongest schedule BYU has played in the last 10 years.

So yes, BYU is better off on all fronts compared to if they had stayed in the now watered-down Mountain West*: money, exposure/TV, and schedule.

* now if Utah and TCU were still in the Mountain West, and if they had brought Boise State aboard, that would have been a fun conference.

The pattern of average S.O.S. seems eerily similar to that of when they were still in the MWC. So how exactly are you "better off" than before, with no conference title to play for, extremely limited bowl-tie ins, and the fact that power conferences are basically encouraging their schools not to schedule you?

The more TV money argument doesn't wash because BYU is a private institution funded by the LDS Church. Their resources have been virtually limitless regardless of whatever crappy TV they were tied up in with the Mountain West. I'm sure the ESPN revenue is nice, but it's not as if that money is as crucial to them as Pac12 dollars are for Utah.

Look, you're the BYU fan. I guess if you really feel better off as a fan, it's not really my place to try and tell you otherwise. However, if I was a BYU fan, I'd be petrified that the new college football structure is going to leave them out in the cold. It would especially sting considering that BYU being "difficult to work with" may have killed their last real chance to get into a power conference.

And Trout, as the footprint of college football continues to change, as a Ute fan I am extremely grateful that they sold out for 3rd wheel status and now reside in a power conference that is currently kicking our ***. Utah's S.O.S. next year is 6th in the nation while BYU's will probably reside somewhere in the 50's.

I'd rather my team have a place at the table in major college football and play a Top 10 schedule, even if it means more losses. At least we have a true barometer of how we stack up with the elite. I also love how you act like there should be some sort of grass-roots type of loyalty in college football. BYU would have bolted to the PAC had they been invited and still would. Sadly, that invitation will never come.

Dunno if y'all know this but basketball exists too and Utah is a legit contender for the Pac 12 title next year.

Will likely be ranked #2 in the Pac 12 pre season.

It doesn't matter because we're sell outs that traded our souls for greener pastures.

Pretty much this.

But seriously, I bet you're also totally cool with Karl Malone chasing a ring in LA, right? Well let me tell you, he sold his soul and got exactly what he deserved, just like you tools. He will be forever tainted in my eyes, and I wouldn't piss on him to put out a fire. It's not about "grass roots" anything; it's about not being a bitch. Utah, and all of their fans, failed that test. Deep down, they know it too, but they've got their ever-loving mouths and delusional ****-soaked brains to keep feeding the pseudo-pride and arrogance that defines them.

BYU may lose. BYU may not make a bowl every year. BYU may not ever win another NC. Of course, neither will Utah. The biggest difference is that we'll be doing it on our terms, you'll be doing it because that's the best you can ever hope for, and that's part of the bargain you signed up for.

This is an absolutely horrible life outlook bro. Just wow.

Umm, do you want to bet on this?

We will be ranked #2 in the Pac 12 pre season rankings.

Insanely stacked for next year.

I dunno much 'bout the Pac-12. Just figured UCLA and Oregon would probably be better or smth. Utah should be pretty salty, but if they're the 2nd best team in Pac 12 that's kinda lame. Is it supposed to be a down year for the conference?

USA should be shamed of themselves for selling out and playing in World Cup.

Cannada might not have been invited to play in the World Cup, but at least they are sucking on their own terms, and I respect that.

I don't know if I've ever laughed so hard at a post.

It's neat to watch BYU try to do it on "their terms" while their HC is in the midst of a complete 180 from his initial stance on Independence. He's currently campaigning for BYU's inclusion into one of these conferences. He literally could be blowing the Big 12 commish as we speak.

Trout, your beloved "Y" is a whore just like the rest of 'em. Too bad nobody's buying.
