With the Fifth Pick... Dante Exum

As one of the few existing Aussie jazz supporters, can I warn u all that there will be a huge influx of Aussies now in this site. That's the way we Aussies work.

Can I just say that it is a given with exum that he will have a high bball iq, his ego will be controllable, and he will be desperate to win. You won't have the attitude issues that might tend to affect American athletes more regularly. He will be down to earth and a hard worker.

Looking forward to seeing him contribute.

Join in... I'm an Aussie as well!!!

Duh! That's exactly why we're dogging on him. I would've preferred a little more of a sure thing.

You mean someone with a predictable ceiling that continues to lead us towards mediocrity? Yeah, we need more players like that.... . We swung for the fences. I won't say we didn't. He's a risk. At least give him a chance before dogging him is my point. You never know what will happen.

Just dropped by to express just how excited I am by this pick. A complete unknown! Someone who can be a bust or a superstar. It sucks that we have to wait for a few months to see him play. But I haven't been this excited for the season to begin in a very long time.

Go Jazz!

We took a chance on a guy that could be Kobe...

Kobe averaged 31 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks per game his senior season. This comparison is very unrealistic.

Exum is an unknown who could be a good player. I don't see him as a franchise player like Kobe however.

I wanted Wiggens, Parker or Gordon. They all went top 4. Crapshoot between Exum, Vonleh, Randle and Smart. I wasn't hug on him because there's just not enough info out there. . . but I trust DL and his staff. So we roll with the Aussie and hope he's not Darko. Gotta say it's a swing for the fences pick. DL isn't playing it safe at all!
This, exactly this.

Exum was the right pick but i still dont know how to feel about it.

Im happy i guess

You never know what will happen with someone like Stauskas, either. What if he becomes the white Chris Mullin? People act like this is all some exact science or a video game. Like you can see a player's "potential ability" number.

I fully admit that someone picked down beyond 5 could end up being a better player. That's why you have to just trust the front office. They know more than we will ever know about Exum and if you have trusted him so far then why stop now? Give the kid a chance.

Love this pick. Potential lockdown defender? Check. Can play multiple positions on both sides of the ball? Check. Can pass? Check. Can rebound? Check. Can attack the rim? Check. Can score? Check. Is a foreigner (not that it matters but there's something about this that I like if we're following the Spurs model)? Check. Dad played basketball at a high level so he's been groomed on who to be a pro? Check.

I love this pick so, so much. Does he need to work on his shooting? Yes. But hell, so did Wiggins. This kid has an It factor to me and I wanna be part of it.

Go Jazz!

PS--I want Early with the next pick. He too is very, very well-rounded and could be great insurance if we don't match Hayward.

My problem isn't that I don't trust the office to evaluate talent, my problem is that the whole approach is wrong. Picking the best player available is a bad idea. You fill needs. The Jazz don't need a PG or a SG.

I love the Exum pick. I had him talent-wise on the same tier as Parker. He's got Barbosa speed and Shaun Livingston PG skills. Really smart kid.

I think we just got the smartest guy in the draft. Plus we need an all-star, might as well swing for the fences here. His accent is awesome too so that's going for him!!!!!

I think we'll have to be a little patient with him, but pretty excited about this.

I'm thinking after Embiid got hurt the Jazz's big board looked like this:

Wiggins
Parker
Exum
Gordon

so successful draft!

Did you see Trey Burke play? I know it was his rookie season, but there were a lot of red flags watching him during the course of the year.
