Which Free Agent veteran players will we go for?

I think and I would think most of you would agree except the trolls on here, that we need to sign Patty Mills to a decent contract to mentor Dantè Exum. With Mills ties to Dennis Lindsey and the Spurs bodes well but also being a guard and coming over from Australia would help with Dantè development immensely, not to forget Patty Mills had a very good season last season and playoff run. I say throw the full MLE at Patty Mills. I see a rotation of Burke/Mills/Neto at the 1 and Exum/Burks at the 2.

Then trade for Ryan Anderson like Kanter and a draft pick or two should get it done.

Sign Marcin Gortat as well, so a big rotation of Favors, Anderson, and Gortat would be ideal, probably Gortat and Favors starting and Anderson picking up the majority of the minutes as the 3rd big. Jeremy Evans and Rudy Gobert getting spot minutes.

Last, after listening to all these interviews this last week everyone from management and coach sound like Gordon Hayward is a sure thing to be re-signed. So then you have a rotation of Hayward/Hood at the 3.
Those would be good moves.

Seems like a difficult thing to get anderson, mills, and gortat though.

Pretty highly sought after guys by other teams i would think

I agree which is why I would just settle with Spencer Hawes and like a Selvin Mack, Hawes or Kanter could develop into that stretch big role.

Really liked McRoberts last year. Also PJ Tucker or Jordan Hill seem like Jazz guys.

Yeah Jordan hill is the only one have any real interest in. The others would be like adding RJ. Another poor year is still needed and then we can start filling in gaps to make some noise.

We should not be targeting short-term rotation players, that is set.

Jazz will use cap space to trade for future assets, matching cap space with high-character "insurance" players (injury protection), not 2014 rotation players.

It will be a mini version of 2013 Golden State move, minus RJ coming in and taking minutes.

Guard: Exum, Burke, Burks,
Swing: Hayward, Burks, Hood
Bigs: Favors, Kanter, Gobert, Evans

Why take minutes away from these 9? Development time, and no talk about tank, try like hell to win but we we won't win much and land a mid-to-late 2015 lottery pick.

Still think we didn't improve our defense much this off season. Maybe Quin will be able to coach up some guys, specifically Kanter, but PJ Tucker would be a needed perimeter defender. I agree with everyone that we should make a Jefferson, Biedrins deal again this season and then worry about adding the pieces around youth. Our core needs as much playing time together as possible.

While I would understand if they used the remaining cap space in a way similar to last year, I've kind of been hoping they go after role-playing guys they want. Give them something like two-year deals at slightly inflated rates so they're motivated. Something like what Atlanta got in Millsap and Carroll would be a dream. (In fact, maybe we can re-acquire Carroll; he and Snyder have a great relationship.)

I think guys like Tucker and McRoberts fit this bill. I'd be willing to pay Mills for longer (especially given the Aussie connection). And Diaw definitely earned 3 years. Prying those guys away could be hard. Marvin Williams also fits this description.

Shaun Livingston, Mike Scott, Wesley Johnson, Kirk Hinrich.

One other argument against a GSW-type deal:

I think we have a lot of good assets right now. It's time to start establishing winning habits -- especially because we have a new coach. Go get him a couple of players who can help him. I'm suddenly really into the idea of trading for Carroll. What would that cost? A couple second-round picks? Jeremy Evans and a second rounder?

Too be honest with you, I think we need some solid Vets that have been winners. I'd do this and call it an off-season

You all might hate this but, I'd gamble on the following moves (will have to overpay on both)

Paul Pierce (3 year deal) 10 million, 9 million, 8 million (t.o half guaranteed)

Pierce brings toughness, will make the other players try harder and push them to do there best.

Paul Gasol (3 year deal) 12 Million, 11 Million, 10 Million (t.o. half guaranteed)

Gasol would be a perfect fit next to Favors, Gobert, Kanter. help them work on there mid range shot and passing. Both Players want to win and would help our young talented team take another step. I think the Jazz could also make some noise in the playoffs if everyone is healthy.

My 8 man rotation would be

Burke/Exum
Burks/
Hayward/ Pierce
Kanter/ Gasol
Favors/

Both contracts would fall off in time, to resign Exum/Hood/Burke

Gortat would be nice. Maybe McRoberts. This isn't a good year for free agents we can potentially sign.

Lots of PGs which we don't need.

I bet there will be a trade.

There is no chance in hell those players would sign here. ZERO.

LMFAO, two HOFers coming to Utah to finish their careers off the bench.

Stop playing 2K13. Now.

I was looking at the free agent lists. I don't see too many that I think we realistically have a shot at competing for the team.

I would love to go after Chandler Parsons but I think he will go with an established roster.

Thabo Sefolosha
Trevor Ariza
Patrick Patterson
Caron Butler
Channing Frye
Jason Smith
Shawn Marion

I want nothing to do with anyone with ball skills and neither does DL. They're going the OKC route 1 more year and I'd be surprised if one of Hayward and Burks aren't flipped for future flexibility.

I don't think we should really be looking at getting into anything too expensive or long for we have a really young team. They need to be doing the bulk of the playing. We probably need another year of lotto picks to really solidify our core. I'm afraid that signing too many vets might result in short-term gains but long-term losses.

I personally wouldn't mind inviting a few undrafted and foreign players to come try out for the jazz this year. Who knows, maybe we'll find another Wes Matthews?

What type of free agent thread would this be without me mentioning;

Al-Farouq-Aminu-icon.jpg

Let me restate the case, for Aminu;

We still need an oversized, defensive minded SF. Aminu can play PF in spots too. He is absolutely a top tier rebounder from the SF spot, this guy is about the size of Favors, At this point in his career i dont mind comparing Aminu to a Giannis that cant shoot, his ballskills are not what giannis shows either, but he'd suprise ya tbh, hes very capable of grabbing a D reb and dribbling it up the court. Not much of an offensive weapon, hes a rebounder and a slasher, hes a good player to have in the rotation to switch up the look defensively vs top tier forwards. Hes still pretty young too he turns 24 near the start of the season. He knows his lane on offense, doesn't take many bad shots.

Hes very professional and supposed to be a great locker room guy. his nicknames 'the chief' I think he fits here, and you can likely get him on a multi year deal for CHEAP.
