With the 23rd Pick... Rodney Hood

Kid shows some intensity and a penchant for following his shot. I like how he looks to dunk. I wish more of our players dunked the ****ing rock.
This is one of the knocks i have on burks. (Along with his defense)

He has the size and athleticism to dunk alot more than he does

Does a dunk count more than a layup?
It also requires more energy expenditure and can bang up the hands and arms if they hit the rim.
I just want guys who can hit shots.

Interesting. I wonder if the Jazz see Hood as a viable replacement for Hayward if he were to walk.

Hayward had a bad year. It is like fans forget about how good he can be. Hayward has a great skill set on both sides of the ball. We know he can shoot. He (like the rest of this team) lost focus last year. Letting him go would be a big mistake, especially if Hood is his replacement. Hood is a poor defender. Duke had to hide him in their defensive schemes. I know he said he wants to be a good defender, but did he not want to be a good defender in college? Did anyone see KJ McDaniels destroy him when Clemson played Duke?

Hood has a pretty good stroke. He will be a decent addition to this team, but he has a long way to go, and he isn't super athletic. I was hoping we'd get Cleanthony in the 2nd round (or instead of Hood).

I hope the team Matches offers to Hayward. Losing him would be a big mistake.

Could also remind you of when Curtis Borchardt fell farther than expected and ended up being made of glass.

But I applaud your optimism.

I heard that if you say Bordchardt ten times into the mirror in a dark room nothing will happen. Just what I heard.

I have seen a few occasions where he (alec) went for a contested layup (that he could have dunked) and watched the ball roll off the rim. He should have dunked it on those occasions.

A dunk does count for more than a missed layup last time i checked.

Dukies usually perform badly in the NBA but still ...

Was this part of your post made in error? Please advise.

I agree that I want the Jazz to resign Hayward and some people have lost perspective and are hating on Hayward too much (so much that I am pretty sure some of those are joking and/or trolling).

The part in bold is why I replied because maybe your confused with the Dukie who wore #1 who they had to hide on defense, in fact Hood was used to guard the other teams best player most nights. Now that may speak to why Duke wasn't a good defensive team but at least he has a defensive mindset and want to and just hopefully needs to improve on fundamentals and other coachable things

His press conference was very telling. His defense comments were so nice to hear. Reminds me of Wesley Matthews when he first made the team. The fact that his defense is how he wants to be judged is huge. Dante didn't mention defense once. We're going to be big fans of Roscoe Hood.

Actually, I have all year said I only want hayward back at the right price. I think Hayward is talented and I want him back but not at the expense of losing multiple players or not being able to bring in FAs down the road. I agree with the Hood comments. I think he needs to improve his defense but Duke wasn't hiding Hood.

Don't worry about Hayward's contract or him getting 13 million per year. With the new TV deal coming in two years, by his fourth year, the fact that Favors and Hayward are only making 11-14 per year...they will be VASTLY underpaid.

The cap will be 90-100 million in two years.

I've seen guys clang dunks off the rim, or shake their hands/wrists after made dunks. Also seen players land awkwardly after going up for a dunk. Yes, if it's contested, you go up strong. If not, there's no reason to, other than just showing off.

Let me put it to ya like this.

i have seen burks miss some contested layups that he would have been better off dunking

I have yet to see him miss a dunk when he should have layed it up

I have seen him throw up some prayers in traffic when he could've passed off to favors for a wide open power dunk.

Ostertag should have ate less

Dont know what any of this has to do with whether or not burks should try to dunk the ball more often or not though. (Which is what was being discussed)
