I just read something the other day about there being 1.5 million Chinese citizens living full-time in Africa now too.

The real estate market here in Los Angeles as well as the other cosmopolitan destination cities around the US have been affected by cheap Chinese money. In addition to wall street investors.

In the long run, the Chinese will own the world.

The only true chance we as Americans have is if there is a paradigm shift of epic proportions. A change in perception as to what is considered successful and how one achieves it.

Definitely. And it's not yo momma's chinese folk that would come over and cluster around a Chinatown. These guys are in West L.A., the nice spots in the OC, etc. Last time I went to Fashion Island, It was like 100% Chinese in there.

I'm going to challenge you on that. Why did you come to that conclusion?

I was wondering about influence the other way.
Could American women even pull off a "Lysistrata" with all the easy liberal females around with no self control.

Of course, I need to think twice about how it sounds to a woman. From a male point of view, the pursing of the lips, the pointing of the finger, and the order "Go" usually means "Go take out the trash, then come make love to me." Well, perhaps.

I submit the theory that pious women of a hundred years ago were mostly wishing for a reprieve of some sorts. Todays women have their own jobs, and maybe generally believe men are useless abstractions and a threat to their womanly priorities in life: Clothers, social standing with the ladies, and room to stretch out on the couch to watch daytime TV and eat pizza. Men might, or might not have jobs. Might not, or might, be a nuisance to have dropping dirty socks by the side of the bed, or in front of the couch. Stuff like that.

Women have always had the self-control it takes to make men options in life, and just a few ever really liked men enough to consider two of them.

And I refuse to hint at whether I am deadly serious, or merely jesting. . . . .

But under the power of social norms and a florid press, in WWI it really was an absolute duty for a man, in the eyes of women, to volunteer for that war. Being a "Liberal" woman has always meant at least a double dose of that insanity.

Influence the other way? You mean men insisting to their PMSing women that they need to "Go" in order to protect the hearth, or the nation, from the ravishing hordes of war? I could see that actually being a primary consideration, unspoken of course, in the minds of many men. Yay. . . . we get to go ravishing. . . . . or Yay, don't expect me home for supper. . . . or Yay, at last some peace and quiet, I could really use some sleep".

But only a few men get as ideological as most women naturally are, or as patriotic if you please. . . . .hunting squirrels was probably as important to men of that era as saving the nation.

It's a whole new era for the fraudsters. . . . selling pump and dump stocks to clueless Chinese. . . . selling worthless US mining "claims", and all kinds of real estate at speculative prices. But hell yeah, they are bidding up the price of ordinary housing, and it is an unsustainable bubble nonetheless, still.

I would guess my idea of what is "successful" may yet come into fashion. But judging from my sis-in-law Chinese-Now-American, it has a lot to do with the house, the job, and the vacation time. My brother goes "home" to China every other year for two months.

I hear about the cars, too. Buick, man, Buick. That's the craze in China.

And they have their own border crisis, too. North Koreans lining up on the border to work in China at high wages. . . . .

Yah, probably you were not involved in the Aztec sports features. If you had been there, and you were a honcho or honchette, they had a bowery so you could sit in the shade and swill tequilla or whatever they called it back then, and maybe wink at some cuties while watching the Aztec version of gladiators duking it out on the field under the hill. My point was that the nobles of both sides got together, in the same bowery, to watch. It was sorta understood that the battle was meaningless, except for watching some brave young fools die for their country, and some others hauled off as slaves when the battle was done.

Pretty much the same thing as war nowadays under our UN.

If you somehow survived being a foot soldier in a war like that, you'd probably decide to pack your bags and hike several moons away, and spend the rest of your life eating locusts, flies, and stink bugs in the desert, like me.

Not that I was ever in anybody's army, I never had the health it takes to get in an army, even in a draft. But I see enough to know what I would do.

Problem is, the damn BLM owns the desert and won't let you live there.

And isn't that Bowery Haven where the BLM paramilitary force is camped? Richfield?

The Mayan demi-gods often submitted themselves to worse sacrifices than their subjects. That's according to the record that Cracker mostly burned for no good reason. They weren't swilling tequila either .. more likely butt chugging: https://jazzfanz.com/archive/index.php?t-12295.html

So I missed the whole chugger discussion.. . . . before. . . . sorta wished I had missed it still. . . .lol

Absolutely. I hope my post did not come off implying that the Chinese folks buying up these properties are poor. On the contrary, the 2013 boom was led by investors as well as wealthy Chinese buying these properties with cold hard cash. Buying in expensive areas but nonetheless pushing up prices for the average American who subsequently is over committing themselves debt wise in order to afford one of these homes.

But only a few men get as ideological as most women naturally are, or as patriotic if you please. . . . .

Can you speak to this please?

I disagree. It's the same as it ever was. These Chinese are not clueless and if you think they are, I'd guess this was some sort of jingoism talking. Well, I'm not speaking to Chinese buying stocks, as I don't have any information on that. If you want to link to some articles, I'd be more than happy to read. Also include "worthless US mining claims" if you could.

When I talk of this paradigm shift in Americans, it is already happening but it's a forced one. The idea that Americans will be able to buy a two story home and have two cars in the driveway is gone. This will not come back for the most part. Most all other parts of the world have never shared in this concept of success and most families have lived together in a small flat. This is being forced on Americans and there are more adults living with their parents today than there ever has been.

In respect to wages, the acceptance of it both mentally and monetarily will be forced and ultimately accepted. Will this bring some sort of equilibrium between us and the Chinese? Who knows.
