Cavs offer Gordo MAX deal (maybe)

5 years is the max number of years, correct?

Good catch.
Irving's extension is for FIVE years and $90M. Because he reached certain incentives, he can be given a 5/30% contract. He is still on his rookie deal for this season (drafted one year after Hayward). SO I was wrong in a previous post. That deal will NOT affect their cap this year. They still have some housework to do in terms of clearing salary, but pretty easy to get to $15M available.

Bah, I think this is another Boylen Gambit. Give the fans the worst possible case, then sign G-Time for 12 to 13 million. He gets to look like he turned down more money to stay in Utah, Utah looks like they got a deal, the only people who can cry foul are in Cleveland, but nobody will believe anything they say anyway, because they lie constantly. And screw them anyway. Win, win, win.

Im not sure if anyone on the league would offer him max deal, but he is a great asset and i wouldnt like to lose hayward.

What are the odds Hayward even makes the All-Star team in any year of that deal?

A max deal for Hayward would legitimately be the worst contract since the Hedo Turkoglu trainwreck.

The problem with this thinking is the supposition that giving Hayward this deal would hurt us in any way. The cap is going up every year, maybe as high as 80 mil after the TV deal. If his deal is four years, it will be up when time comes to extend Exum. It in no way hapers us trying to extend our other players. Unfortunately it is just market price for someone with his talents this year. Jazz should have done the deal last year instead of waiting.

They don't have to give him a physical copy to fax around. They just give offer him a deal. His agent calls Jazz. Jazz counter or say go for it and match. Either way the Jazz match. Sounds to me like they may even match the max deal. Again this doesn't hurt the Jazz in any way. Just the sensibilities of some of the posters here on Jazzfanz.

Agreed. Seems like Hayward's agent and the FO when out of their way to make it sound like there are no ill feelings and this is definitely par for the course. It's pretty much Hayward going out to see his market value and if the Jazz are willing to pay it. If they love him, they will pay it. Simple as that.

I think the Jazz are going to ask to see a MAX offer. They're not going to believe his agent unless they see a signed deal.

Could be. I believe one of Lindsey's directives from the millers was to massage the fan base. The last few years of KOC were rough, some fans booed the Hayward pick, some fans wanted KOCs head for Al Jefferson, Jazz hate on twitter was embarrassing.

Lindsey plays Jazz fans like a piano.

Of course Cleveland also plays their fan base, but in a different way. They are always talking big, leaking unrealistic trades or acquisitions just to keep their name on ESPN.

We give gordon the max, play him at sf and start burks at sg, burks has a much better year than gordon did last year and is younger with more potential.... now he asks for the max too.

Kanter plays pretty well and figures thats good enough for max since hayward only played decent to earn his max..... now we max kanter.

So now we have hayward, burks, and kanter all maxed out but none of them deserve it and none are stars....... we fight for the eighth seed for years since we have an overpaid roster with no flexibility and a bunch of untradeable players and contracts

Or, we tell them the same thing we told Gordon: you're a restricted FA. Go out and determine your value. WE can either match or reject an offer. Do you think we have ANY chance of getting Burks or Kanter to sign contracts this summer? I don't. They got screwed last season by not starting and not playing 30+ minutes. Both will have much better seasons and their values will go way up. If they play well, they're going to get very good offers no matter what we do with Hayward. If they don't, we offer low (or not at all).

Exactly
This is why we dont overpay hayward...... because kanter and or burks might go out this year and play great and DESERVE the money being tossed around hayward.
