Utah vs. Boise in Las Vegas Bowl

Anyone watch the bowl special tonight? I was happy to see them showing Utah sugar bowl highlights when they did the Alabama bowl game. But they spent almost the entire time talking about Boise when the vegas bowl discussion came up, I think all they mentioned about utah was that Wynn was out and some guy named Cain was going to start. They had Boise as their 2nd highest confidence pick. America's vote was like 89% in favor of Boise. I can't say i'm surprised though. I was surprised they had BYU has a high confident pick, I know they are facing UTEP, but still, that's a lot of confidence in a 6-6 team.

I was a little surprised America's vote was 89% to 11%. I mean we're talking about two top 20 teams here. I expected Boise State to be favored by America but that wide of a spread really shocked me. Not surprised though with the talking heads not mentioning anything Utah related (minus the Wynn/Cain talk). Hell, on the last BCS selection show one of them said Boise could beat Utah 100-0.

I wasn't surprised. All most people outside of Utah saw was were their two worst performances of the season, looking at other message boards there seems to be a lot of doubt in this Utah football team. I've seen some pretty lopsided score predictions. We might as well be 6-6 to these people. I hope we can prove them wrong.

Official word has been hindered by MAACO Bowl Las Vegas preparations. However, highly touted junior college running back John White did, indeed, sign a letter of intent with the Utes. The Harbor College (Calif.) star rushed for 1,491 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2010 and netted 1,036 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2009. White plans to enroll at Utah in January and is likely the heir apparent to replace Matt Asiata and Eddie Wide as Utah's primary back next season.

Looks like he got offers from a couple SEC schools among others, so not a bad signing to try and fill the RB void next season

Probably because the only game America watched this year on the Utes was the Notre Dame game. It was the only one that I can think of that was nationally televised.

I think a lot of people still feel that Boise is a top college team that just had a hiccup against Nevada. It's too bad they aren't offered the same big conference standards. If there were a playoff system installed, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Boise coming out on top. If the BCS system were installed in the NBA, Kobe would have at least double the rings, Dallas would have been a dynasty, and T-mac might have actually won something.

That's an excellent point. If I were in that situation, I would probably view it the same way.

I find it kind of funny how much Utah is running their mouths before this game. Perhaps they're doing it to relieve some of the fear of being blown out?

Boise St. has been one of the most dominant forces in Div I Football for a long time. Their program is what BYU and Utah should aspire to have. IMO, if Utah wins this it will be BY FAR the biggest upset in Coach Whit's career. At least Utah against Alabama was at worst, a fringe BCS buster. Some critics could have said that they barely got by Oregon St and should have lost to TCU. I understand that argument.

However, this Boise St. team is fantastic while this Utah team isn't very good at all. The gap between the two teams is much greater than Utah vs Pitt, Utah vs Bama, and Utah vs nearly any team they've seen in a long time. If Utah has any shot, they'll need several once in a lifetime performances. While also needing Boise to either play uninspired or have a half of falling asleep (like they did against Nevada).

I predict a ticked off Boise to pick Cain off several times and to be up by at least 3 touchdowns by halftime. This one is going to get ugly ala TCU (Biggest game ever in the state of Utah)......

Lets see how good this Girlsie St. team really is... But that's ok, Utah is going to the PAC-10 and doesn't care about this game, right Salty?

I think so as well. I'm hoping it's a good game though because this is one of only 3 bowl games I'm going to watch.

Utah obviously cares about this game. But you are correct that win or lose, Utah has the better future.

The Vegas Bowl gets what, the 5th or 6th place PAC team? You can bet your bottom dollar Utah will be better than that most years, and therefore going to a better bowl.

You're wrong that Utah should be striving to be Boise though. Everything Boise does, Utah did first. Utah has bigger BCS wins too. Boise only beat 1 actual BCS team in a BCS Bowl, and they needed a bunch of trick plays to get an OT win. And their record in non BCS bowls is crappy.

R u gonna bet ur bottom dollar?
Are you going to bet against it? If I can find someone dumb enough to bet me that Utah will finish in the bottom half of the PAC 12 next year, I'll happily take their money.

My brother is down there and says that it is like a scene from "Waterworld". The 17 points looks pretty tempting.

Utah covers easily. The more I think about it the more I think Utah wins outright. But Utah easily covers.

Why don't you email them and ask them? Or email the reporter who wrote that article and ask.

One thing is for sure; ESPN has several announcing crews and they are sending their best one to this game.

"Utes-Broncos didn’t bring Musburger, Herbstreit to Vegas"

https://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/sports/50917036-77/game-musburger-utah-bowl.html.csp

But never fear...the article goes on to say that this is one of the 5 or 6 best bowls of the season, and that the announcers are quite excited. Well, excited because Boise State will be there, but still.

And now, I sit back and watch TapaDawg in action.

Not sure where the controversy is there. ESPN is sending their best announcing crew, the announcers are excited to be there, everyone is calling it one of the best bowl games of the year, and BYU fans like yourself are hoping beyond hope that Utah gets embarrassed.

How is that controversial, our even contradicting anything I posted?

Meh, not your best work, but it's enough to get me off for today.

I find it funny how you can speculate on Utah's mindset considering how much time you spend around the team. While I'll admit, I don't really like hearing players run their mouths before a game, it doesn't automatically mean Utah is afraid. I could just as easily proclaim that maybe it shows confidence and it would be no closer to the truth than what you're spewing.

Utah (or even BYU for that matter) should not aspire to have what Boise has. Utah is in a bigger market, has a deeper recruiting pool, better facilities, and much more upward mobility than Boise. Had the MWC stayed together after Boise joined, the nation would have quickly seen that when Boise had to play Utah, BYU and TCU year in and year out, they would no longer be a threat to bust the BCS every year. Nevada beat Boise this year, and while Nevada is a good team, they wouldn't have won the MWC. TCU would have most likely handled them and what if the Wolfpack traveled to Provo in the later part of the season instead of earlier? What if the Wolfpack had to face Utah when they were hitting their stride earlier in the season? The WAC is borderline DivII football right now and Boise has gotten fat off of it. No other way around that.

However, this Boise St. team is fantastic while this Utah team isn't very good at all. This is my absoutely favorite part of your quote because it shows what a wuss you are. Even though you claim to know that Boise is going to roll Utah, you're already laying out some backdoor excuses in advance just incase Utah wins or has a good showing. That's really pathetic man. Bottom line is this: Both teams have to take it upon themselves to come into the game fired up, prepared and ready to go. Let's not make excuses on either side, let the game dictate the winner. If it's Boise in a blowout, than so be it. You won't see any excuses coming from me.

Maybe that will be the case, or maybe you're wrong. However, if you're wrong at least do the decent thing and admit it without using any of those ready-made excuses that you've already started throwing around.
