Dante on The Jim Rome Show

Love this kid. Good, smart and humble.

Interesting that he mentions the fact that 1, 2 or 3 can be the PG depending on who gets the rebound. Makes a Hayward, Burks, Burke and Exum backcourt group even more interesting. I like the idea that any of them can run the play and look to transition quickly after a rebound instead of always having the ball go through Burke or Exum. The more we see of Quin Snyder's plan, the more I like him.

This is what made Miami so deadly on fast breaks. Not to compare them to us athletically, but Lebron, Wade, or Chalmers could all get the rebound and just go. No waiting and looking around 3 seconds for your point guard to bring the ball up. For it to work though the parts have to be interchangeable. If Hayward spots up for a corner 3 when he did not grab the initial rebound, Dante must be able to do the same. Right now Exum's shooting is very weak, and might be ignored as a floor spacer.

Two words. Shot Doctor.

The Jazz need a shooting coach like Chip Engelland, whose main role on the team is helping these young guys improve their form, mechanics and confidence shooting the ball. I know that Quin Snyder is quite capable of helping in these areas, but I wonder if his involvement in the overall picture will force him to delegate that responsibility to someone else.

I went ahead and fixed that for you.

Thanks. To be perfectly honest, if I were an owner, I'd pay him a ridiculous amount of money to come work for my team. Promote him. Pay him. Let him work his magic. I'm amazed that teams aren't lining up to steal him from the Spurs - especially after this past season.

Teams HAVE made offers. Kerr wanted him desperately. He doesn't want to leave SA. People don't always go the highest bidder.

That's true sometimes, but as a long-time coach and knowing a lot of other coaches. . . it's an industry that is very transient. There's a lot of onward and upward movement in the coaching industry. Most guys want to take a higher paying job, or a more prestegious position.

Offer both and it's an easy decision to make - most of the time. It's not the case for everyone, but any long-time professional coach has likely had numerous jobs in places all over the country. And no matter how good their current job is, most are looking for one that's better or they're prepared to get fired and start looking somewhere else.

While they didn't land him this year, I really hope the Jazz try again next offseason. It doesn't hurt to try, and you certainly won't get him if you sit on your hands.

On the other hand, he knows he likely has a job for life with the Spurs. If he's making $1M/per (or whatever)and his family is happy in SA, there's no reason to move elsewhere, especially if he has no aspirations of being a head coach.

What do you mean he can't be bought?

Is that where we are at as a country? Now dollars don't mean anything, people are so confused that they are assigning arbitrary "values" to random concepts like quality of life and family? What's next? Loyalty? Friendship?

No wonder America is failing. People behaving like they're living in an episode of Full House, when they are actually living in an episode of Storage Wars, where all the glory goes to the highest bidder.

I got news for you Chip, Popovich is no Danny Tanner. And there won't be any melodramatic music or dubbed in audience applause when you sit on the edge of your bed and say,"I'm making a choice for friends and family, because in the end that's all that really matters."

So man up and sell out, like your other Spurs compadres. It's the American way.

OK, I'll be the first one to come forward and admit I can be bought. Make your best offer.

The funny thing is that I'm arguing that coaches often will take the better job or pay when available. . . while I've turned down a couple of really good job opportunities to stay where I am to teach and coach my kids through high school.

I'm a damn hypocrite. I just really, really, really want Chip Engelland to come to Utah. If I'm the Millers (which obviously, I'm not) I'd do everything I can to make him an offer that he can't refuse.

Can anyone help? Did Chip England ever work for the jazz? I thought I read that he worked as a scout for the Jazz for one season years before making it big as a Shooting Coach. But I couldn't find confirmation. Anyone?

Pistons, Nuggets and Spurs. But his time in San Antonio coincided with Quin Snyder's brief stay and while DL was there as well. Both guys should know him well enough to be able to at least pitch Utah to him if he ever leaves the Spurs.

Interesting... my worse than Hitler list.

In no particular order.

PK
David Locke
Kobe
Fisher
and moving up on my list is Monty from 1320. F*^&% annoying.
Not a bad list. I'm not nearly as annoyed by Locke as most (except for the play by play version of him). Others I'd add to this list are Boozer, Marc Jackson and maybe Gordon Monson.

Does anybody else ever get the impression that Monty's whole goal in life is to be as young and hip as Gunther? He will never achieve it. He tries to be cool and comes off as such a buffoon. But for me, PK is definitely the worst of all. I don't even listen to morning sports radio anymore because of him, and I think DJ is great.
