Jazz Continuing To Beef Up Player Development

He has a relative, Michael Snarr (who is a fb friend of Taylor Snarr's mom), who is Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for the Jazz.

With that said, dude may be perfectly competent, and it's not entirely clear what his role with the team is. The 2013/14 Jazz media guide doesn't list anyone whose primary function is analytics. The Jazz seem to be behind the curve here.

edit: Michael Snarr might be his dad, actually...The Jazz are a family business after all.

On his 1280 interview yesterday, Lindsdey seemed to suggest that the Jazz have/are continuing to contract out some analytics jobs to universities and such. It seems like Snarr's job is to build/manage/expand the database(s) containing all the analytics info they have, not necessarily to run all the analytics jobs (though he might do some of this). What little I can tell about his background from his BYUH student projects and the Dept. of Corrections seems to suggest that he's qualified to do this job.

Yeah, I've looked at his linkedin profile as well. If he's just doing database management and communication, he's probably fine. If he's tasked with modeling and causal inference, I'd be a bit worried. FWIW, Bill James was working security when he did a lot of his work in baseball (and didn't have any graduate degrees or formal experience in statistics).

I'm sorry, but kinda hard to praise the Jazz for doing what they should have already been doing. It's like praising someone for paying child support.

Thank god for Dennis Lindsey and bringing some common sense to the organization.
