He improves our defense. I'd rather sacrifice some offense to have really good defense.
Gobert is bad ***. He should be playing a lot right now.
If I have to pick which player I want on my team today, out of Kanter and Gobert, it's easily Gobert for me. And for the long term, it's easily Gobert too.

As one of his biggest fans - and I could go back to the draft thread when I advocated taking him and said he would be the biggest steal of the draft - I cannot make a case for him starting. Gobert is still very raw. He does not have the skills to compete against starting 5's yet. As a rookie last season, he only played in about half the games and averaged less than 10 mins/per. I think he is being used perfectly right now by Snyder. Play him in all 82 games and let him have all the backup minutes behind Favors, which will be 15-18/per.
It seems as though my post was overstated.

Love him, but he's not ready yet. I'd be all for starting Favors and Booker, then bringing in Gobert and Kanter with the 2nd unit. With that said. . . I really hope that Snyder tries all sorts of combinations this season. I'd like to see what really does and doesn't work with the lineups available.
Not ready yet as a starter but I want to see more minutes for him its not easy if Favors is playing well, but perhaps at the loss to Kanters minutes and or bookers, Favors if any of them not playing well.
He's at least one or maybe two years away from NBA starter material as much as I really like him and his nasty streak which we need more of.

Even though it's fine to say that he is not ready to be a starter but just an inch away from the job, I can see a lot of benefits in it. Especially when Kanter is not feeling with his shot, Gobert must be used against starting centers to reduce the inside scoring. Enes will always have his way in post-up moves around the rim, so let him do that whenever he doesn't feel his mid-range.
One other reason for me to post this in this thread is passing ability and fast breaks. I wanted to open another thread for block & break, but this looks fine enough. Since he was drafted, I see a lot of Ömer Aşık in Gobert's game with obviously a lot more reach. He can even block Marc Gasol's hook shots. This is Wilt-like. So scary aspect of a center for the opposition and he also looks like he has the court vision, brains and passing ability to throw a few after his blocks and rebounds. And being the young roster as they are, the Jazz can also use some more of that block&break or rebound&break positions in change for the center grabbing the board and giving it to the PG who is waiting for the set play positions get set and slow down the play. It's all about using the advantages against certain oppositions, and this is a major upside of the team. Wins you at least 10-15 points. Enes is known to be running the court and he can be used for the same thing in a Gobert-Enes frontcourt to sit Favors. Booker has a firey attitude too and will fit that easily.
I think this table is legit. It ranks the Jazz 4th in fastbreak points. And I say, why not the 1st?

Gobert will be great with a couple more years under him. One thing he has going for him that no other player has; he entered the NBA combine with the longest wing spand of any player ever recorded @ 7 ft 8.5 inches and a standing reach of 9 ft 7 inches. If you add some experience and athleticism to him, he will pay off big!!
We'd all rather sacrifice some offense for great defense. The problem is sacrificing all.
