So I had a bunch of people I know approach me about this podcast. I had no idea podcasts were so popular, the only podcasts I listened to are sports related. They told me about a podcast that has 7 episodes so far so it is a good time to join in. Supposedly, it is already the most popular podcast in the world. They have to be watched in order. It is almost like a detective drama documentary type thing. I really like documentaries about murders that happened like about serial killers or just random interviews with inmates who have been in jail for many many years so it appealed to me somewhat. This podcast is about a true event, a murder that happened in 1999. It is about this supposedly good looking guy who was prom prince, on football team, and track team murdering his ex girlfriend. The guy that supposedly did it has been trialed and was found guilty and is in jail for life. The problem is that they had only circumstantial evidence. They interview the guy and he seems like a pretty cool guy that wouldn't do something, like he is very very well spoken to the point I am almost envious of his speaking ability. Each episode is between 30-60 minutes and they interview various people about the issue in real time trying to bring new light on the case.

I flip back and forth on whether or not the guy did murder or not. At the very least if he did it, there still wasn't enough evidence to convict him I think. Currently after the latest episode I don't think he did it but once again I am on the fence. Only problems I have with it are that there are a lot of names and since it is audio only I sometimes have to rewind and relisten but this is rare and you guys might be better at remembering names than me since I am not the best at it.

Give it a try here. https://serialpodcast.org/season-one/1/the-alibi

Listened to episode 2-5 last night. Plan to get caught up right about now...

It's produced by the same people that make "This American Life."

oooooo. Didn't see that page. Some of those other podcasts were mentioned like the moth, this american life, and radiolab as well. Didn't appeal to me as much as serial but I might give it a shot one day.

Just started listening to this, and was stoked to see a thread. This American Life is really the only other podcast I listen to consistently. I don't know if this is a medium-pushing thing for podcasts as much as it's just expert storytelling. What I admire most about Serial is the same thing I love about TAL--expert, low-key craftsmanship.

I wonder what LazyD's take on the music is since he is an expert in movie scores, I thought the original score & theme song was very well done.

*** Spoiler ***

I'd be interested to know who you guys think is the killer?

I thought Jay had a pretty sweet deal - he knows all the details of the murder, he had the cell phone, had access to Adnan's car, but at the end he made a deal with the prosecutor and got off with no jail time. Too many inconsistencies in his story also didn't help. But he can't be the killer cos where's the motive?

When it comes down to it - it's pretty hard to argue against the "Nisha call". Adnan had to have been there to make that call as it's his friend not Jay's. Also it's really peculiar how Adnan cannot account for his movement that day when it should have been a pretty memorable day for him.

**Spoiler beyond the podcast**

Someone came out on reddit most likely named Bilal a Bosnian Muslim and said that he knew adnan when he was younger and Adnan was an *******, would also lie without any shame and do things like steal money from the Masjid/Mosque donation box and brag about it and also hire prostitutes. Then Rabia confirmed that she knows Bilal on twitter and Bilal knew Adnan but states Bilal is a troubled individual and is a liar and also a pedophile to discredit him. However in doing so this she confirmed that it really was bilal and he knew adnan. This makes me think adnan is guilty, I would be on the fence before. However, I don't think there is enough evidence to prosecute him.

This is what Yusuf (Adnan's brother) said before he deleted his comment ""No he is only doing this because there is an episode about him coming up and he is scared that everything about him will come out. I have no problem with someone making these accusations against my brother yea Adnan stole money from the donation box. Me and my friends use to steal Air heads and sodas from the vending machines. I used to get into fights to and talk about weird stuff. Its called being a teenager and most of the people at the masjid have done worse. The prostitute thing does not make any sense Adnan was getting alot of girls why go to a prostitute. Like I said this is bilal trying to save face"

Should we just make it so from this point onwards we can discuss things without having to put *** spoilers *** on our post?

Pretty sure most of us here would have caught up on the podcast???

Adnan did it. I don't know if there was enough evidence to convict him. But as an audience member... come on, he did it. It's weird that Sarah Kenig (or whoever you spell her last name) wants him to be innocent so badly when... it's just so obvious... that he did it.

Jay knew where the car was without being told and gave the whole story. Adnan doesn't remember how his day went even though he talked with cops which is fishy. His counter to Jay saying Adnan did it? Nothing. Jay knows who did it and it is most likely Adnan. I agree with you.

Btw I found Jay's and Stephanies facebook. I heard Mr. S also has facebook but I couldn't find it.

Yeah, I think Adnan meant for Jay to be his alibi... when Jay snitched, it left him without one.

Well call me crazy but I think Jay was the one who did it alone. It was Stephanie's birthday that day and Adnan who was Prom King and Steph who was Prom Queen were just too close. Jay was soooo into Steph. That day Adnan had gotten the gift for Steph but Jay hadn't. Moreover I think I heard somewhere that Hae & Adnan both knew that Jay hadn't been faithful with Steph - Adnan could have been threatening Jay about this leading to Jay snapping that day.

I think all that amounts to some sort of motive for Jay which should have been investigated more.

Think about this:

- Jay has the motive

- Jay has Adnan's phone and car that day

- Jay has 6 whole weeks to figure out his story and make sure it makes sense before the police questioned him.

- Adnan who was in the dark about the whole thing and still had no idea what was going on that day Hae went missing, snow storm hits the following 2-3 days after that meaning his memory was gonna be fuzzy.

- And about the Nisha call you say? Well she mentioned that she talked to Jay when he was working at the video store - which he wasn't at the time Hae went missing. So that call that Nisha remembered I think was referring to a different date during the 6 weeks period.
