Rudy Gobert "Greatest Jazz Center of All Time" Countdown Thread

Rudy Gobert, 2014-15
3.7 blocks per 36 minutes (league leader)
5.4 blocks per 100 possessions (league leader)
8.0 BLK% (league leader)
1.01 block-to-foul ratio (3rd in the league behind Anthony Davis and Pau Gasol)

there have only been 8 triple doubles with points, rebounds and blocks for the last 10 years : Kirilenko, Camby, Howard, McGee, Ibaka, Hibbert, Sanders and Noah all had one and just one. The last one being Noah in february 2013. My hunch is that we will see Gobert add his name to the list before the end of the season. The last 3 masters at this stat were Olajuwon (10), Robinson (9) and Mutombo (10). Note that Olajuwon's and Drob's were all before the mid 90s. Only 2 of Mutombos were in the 2000s. The last guy to have multiple ones was Ben Wallace in 2002.

Just to show that Gobert's skill set is very rare... a guy like Tim Duncan doesn't have even one of those triple doubles...

If your point is that GoBear is a future HOFer, I agree 100%!

Rudy needs a combination of 125 rebounds, points, assists, blocks, and steals to move into 21st place.

Rudy's blocking shots at a ridiculous rate right now, very Eaton-esque.

Mark Eaton blocked 3.4 shots per game as a rookie in just 18 minutes a game. Although he was 26 years old, Rudy is just 22

I don't like comparing very different era's players, but I have to say that for Eaton's and Rudy's situation, height and wingspan adds a lot to their blocking rate and the athleticism level of the game should make Rudy's given accomplishment of let's say, 3 blocks a game more valuable than Eaton's same stats. I think Rudy's job is harder. Of course he also has his advantage because he has his unique quickness to raise hand and rise against drivers not compared to Eaton but anyone I know right now, so Rudy has some physical advantages to Eaton too.

Perhaps, but Eaton also played in an era when players could actually touch without a foul getting called. Sloan's defense purposely funneled drivers into the middle so they could get knocked to the floor by Eaton. When you ran into Eaton, it hurt for days. Eaton was a great defensive center for his era. Gobert is a great defensive center for this one.

Haha. "Well put." I meant to say "Well put. "

Some quotes:

"That was the toughest (game I've played) this season. That guy Gobert. Wow, insane. He just didn't let up. Like a shadow. Honestly, I'm glad it's over and we move on to the next one"
Dwight Howard after Gobert held him to just 8 points
"Gobert was a machine. Serge said in the locker room that he couldn't believe some of the blocks that kid made...and that's coming from the best in the league at it. He's a wall inside."
Scott Brooks after Gobert's 7 block game against OKC

Some quotes:

Sometimes it's really simple. Put yourself in the shoes of your opponent... what would they want you to do? Would they want to see you play Kanter or Gobert? I loved those quotes.

Gobert gonna wear people out. Kanter is clearly the third big... i don't care if he starts. If we can keep him for third big money great... if not you can get guys like Booker and roll with it.

Opponents are already having to plan around Gobert. this just shows his impact.

Rudy only needs a combination of 15 rebounds, points, assists, blocks, and steals to reach 21st place. He should easily accomplish that sometime during his next game.

On another note, Rudy is 6.3% the way there on finally eclipsing Eaton. Hope we keep him around long enough to see that. . .

Gobert got some love on the Grantland Basketball Hour today.

Gobertmania is sweeping the nation. Just start him please. It's time.

Not too worried about re-signing Derrick . Hayward will opt out and may/may not return. That means DL could make Rudy our Designated Player and sign him for 5 years.

If it comes down to it, I will chain Rudy up in my basement and only let him out for games. He must never leave.

Hayward has never been our designated player and never will be. The term designated player only applies to players extended from their rookie contracts. We could sign Rudy as our designated player while at the same time signing Gordon to a 5 year max extension, if that is what we wanted.

Rudy Gobert to the world after he dominates the USA v. World Rookie/Sophomore game:
