Kanter traded to OKC

WTH did people really think we could get for Kanter? I was hoping for a little more but this deal makes sense.

This trade isn't ideal but it's better than getting nothin or re-signing a disgruntled player who doesn't want to be here.

This trade shines or crumbles based in DLs actions this offseason.

All the early over reacting both ways humors me.

I pretty sure everybody would be saying **** if Kanter hadn't been moved too.

Almost everybody agrees that he had to be traded....but he has been underselled! OKC made a huge deal!

Why the Jazz didn't push to involve in the trade Jeremy Lamb or Perry Jones instead of Perkins?

What better deal was out there? Do you not think DL called around?

Totally off topic, but Thomas Robinson (former #5 overall) was bought out tonight. The jazz lack bigs.

Exactly. "God, why did Lindsey let Kanter walk for nothing. It's just like Jefferson and Milsap all over again. Kanter's going to take the qualifying offer and then just leave - we won't be able to trade him now. Jesus, why isn't Gobert in the game? Favors sucks at center, wish we could play him at power forward. Man, I hate our draft position. If only we had more assets and could move up."

Jazzfanz 101: people will complain about everything except for the potential draft pick who is going to be amazing until he joins our team, whereafter we can complain about how he isn't developing fast enough.

Not picking on you - I have tons of respect for you.. This is the 4th or 5th time I've heard this and it's driving me nuts. I have to wonder how and when our standards got lowered to choices between a sub-standard deal or no deal at all. I think Jazz fans should expect more from their team - I know I do.

10 years ago The Jazz traded for a vet center who they then bought out and got a late first round pick. Only that trade was for a malcontent scrub with zero upside - Carlos Arroyo. Jazz just traded a number 3 pick with real upside for the same assets - insane.

Pass... He's a rotation player. I'd rather see what the new guy does.

Another situation to monitor would be GS... They have a cap crunch for a year. We could end up taking Lee or AI off their hands... I don't love it but we'd prolly get some assets for doing so.

Without the trade we'd be much more limited.

This will be horrible. We need to make moves towards improving this coming summer. We are done with renting our cap space(at least hope so). This is collaborated with the fact that we got rid off Novak today. We are clearing up everything that we are not using up to full potential. I think we need to make a push next season to becoming 50-50 team, maybe even be in the mix for the playoffs for a while. I think we will use the cap-space in signing good role players(possibly a wing-starter, if such is available) in order to improve the bench and be competitive. Hayward has an option in 2017 and we need to be a playoff team by that time.

We already have a ton of assets. We have 6 first round picks and 11 second round picks in the next 4 years. That's plenty of assets. We cannot use all of those for drafting players. Some of those will be used either in the draft or in acquiring important pieces for the bench /role players...

1. The floor is irrelevant.

2. Novak is still on the books next season.

There was no need to get to the floor, and no need for Novak. Why let him eat up nearly $4mm in 2015 cap space for a 2nd? It was a bad trade (FWIW, I thought so at the time).

Valid point on RFAs and offer sheets. Still, if the Jazz don't get an offer sheet signed, they could always keep Kanter. Also, since this Kanter mess has reportedly been brewing for a while, it makes sense to wonder what the Jazz could have acquired for Kanter earlier in the season or this past offseason. DL has a pretty consistent record of waiting to do anything until his hand is forced. Not a great sign.

Also, your numbers seem a bit off. I did a quick breakdown of the Jazz cap situation earlier in the thread.

You know a lot about how to quote stats and stuff, and the salary cap and all that, but I really question your player judgment. In my mind, if gvc says don't go get s player, the jazz should get him. You thought Babbitt would be better than Hayward, and now you say you aren't high on exum or Gobert. I get that you don't think exum is great, I mean, what has he shown? But how can you not like Gobert? He is literally the top rim protector in the league right now. He is athletic, and has unmatchable size. Not only does he have those very rare gifts, but unlike kanter, he has a brain.

If you think that DL has bungled this situation, explain what you would have done? Would you have traded kanter earlier? Because then it would appear that you are giving up on an asset too soon. Would you rather have never taken a couple second round picks for a rental of Novak that had a slim chance if working out?

You seem very sure of yourself in this, but don't really supply any other answers than you think Lindsay is a lazy gm.

I wouldn't mind AI if we got something as well... This would be a fall back plan. When I suggested lee I felt like I should punch myself in the nuts... I did and I deserved it. I hate lee.
