Jazz head coach Quin Snyder working one-on-one with new Jazz starting center Rudy Gobert

The Jazz will "more than likely" start Rudy Gobert now, Quin Snyder said after laughing at my question.

Not picking on you - I have tons of respect for you.. This is the 4th or 5th time I've heard this and it's driving me nuts. I have to wonder how and when our standards got lowered to choices between a sub-standard deal or no deal at all. I think Jazz fans should expect more from their team - I know I do.

10 years ago The Jazz traded for a vet center who they then bought out and got a late first round pick. Only that trade was for a malcontent scrub with zero upside - Carlos Arroyo. Jazz just traded a number 3 pick with real upside for the same assets - insane.

The only thing the pick number (#3) indicates is that we drafted wrong. We actively chose to deal a #3 pick as opposed to a #27 pick because it was becoming apparent that they couldn't co-exist, especially with both of them needing time to develop.

What are you talking about "expect more from our team"? The value of a player is maybe only 5% in the control of Lindsey. The rest is all about that player's performance (and Kanter's is ok, but not spectacular) and the needs/assets of other front offices around the league.

We could have gone ahead and offered Gobert and gotten quite a bit more in terms of assets, but then you'd be on here bitching about how unhappy you are that we lost Gobert.

See the issue?

Man stop being such a negative ***. It's not far fetched that a quality free agent would like to come to Utah. We have a solid plan for the future, a good coach, and a now tighter roster in terms of working together to become a very competitive team. I believe that DL will be active during this off season. What were you expecting him to say anyway? 'Yes guys I screwed up, now what do I do'

You're a salesman's dream.

Kanter was another casualty of the Ty/KOC era. He was soured early, having to play behind 3 bigs his 2 years. He knew it too, just look at his face on draft night, he doesn't look stoked to me. All the bigs in that draft knew Utah was the worst team to go to due to our roster.

It wouldn't surprise me if Kanter finally breaks out on the Thunder, and I hope he does. Not sure if he would in Utah, I think it was ****ed from the beginning.

Hopefully Trey doesn't fall victim and we can turn the page.

My thought is that, thank God, we have a better player that made Enes expendable. Dude worked hard as a rookie, then got lazy. He views himself as a #3 pick forever. That crap went away the day he reported for camp. Fact is that he is a poor man's Al Jefferson. He is only THAT because Al Jefferson TAUGHT him to be a poor man's Al Jefferson. That period of time is what Kanter was griping about. His basic issue is that he wasn't handed a starting spot. That is the type of dude I don't want on my team. That rarely ever gets fixed. I hope to Hell someone breaks the bank for him next year, that is certainly less money that they will have against us for players that we want to be on the team.

Now imagine life if we HAD to keep Enes as a starter, imagine placing the hope of the franchise on THAT guy. Finding the best player in a draft at #27 with a pick that you bought changes a LOT of fortunes.

Also kind of stoked that we found a seven footer as a pocket fourth big for 6 to 10 minutes a night. Now we just need a stud combo guard. Fortunately we have the money to buy someone like that.

You know a lot about how to quote stats and stuff, and the salary cap and all that, but I really question your player judgment. In my mind, if gvc says don't go get s player, the jazz should get him. You thought Babbitt would be better than Hayward, and now you say you aren't high on exum or Gobert. I get that you don't think exum is great, I mean, what has he shown? But how can you not like Gobert? He is literally the top rim protector in the league right now. He is athletic, and has unmatchable size. Not only does he have those very rare gifts, but unlike kanter, he has a brain.

If you think that DL has bungled this situation, explain what you would have done? Would you have traded kanter earlier? Because then it would appear that you are giving up on an asset too soon. Would you rather have never taken a couple second round picks for a rental of Novak that had a slim chance if working out?

You seem very sure of yourself in this, but don't really supply any other answers than you think Lindsay is a lazy gm.

I'm always skeptical of someone whose join date is 2012 and goes back in history to 2010 to try to dump on a well known as a solid poster. What's your agenda here?

Another tired narrative. If you are good enough to play you kick *** when you are out there then the coach plays you more. Gobert wasn't given **** and he decided to go out and eat souls and rip the starting job from kanters hands. Kanter is soft mentally.

Kanter had two big surgeries in the last two off-seasons and couldn't work on his game....he will improve for sure!

OKC know how to choose the players...they didn't take him by chance!

Exactly. There's a book by this woman, Carol Dweck, called "Mindset" that was released a couple of years ago. In it, she talks about how there are people with a fixed mindset (I am X good in Y skill and that's as good as I'll ever be) and people with a growth mindset (I am X good in Y skill and I can't wait for the opportunity to get Z good in Y skill.) People with fixed mindsets are constantly making excuses, blaming others, expecting recognition, etc. People with growth mindsets are curious, vision-driven, and work their asses off.

LeBron is a perfect representation of a growth mindset. He puts his team on his back. He reflects on what he could have done better in every loss. He rarely blames others. MJ and Kobe are the same way. So is Gobert.

Kanter, on the other hand, was always blaming something - Ty, his injuries, Dennis, Quin, the Turkish National Team, etc. He thought he deserved more than what he was getting. Incredibly obvious that he has a fixed mindset.

And that, for me, is the primary reason you bet on Gobert instead of him.
