What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

I absolutely do not want to run this same team back. I’d strongly consider running it back over trading for Love. Cleveland has to pay us to take him. I’m gonna be sick

Why do I have this sinking sensation that we land K Love? Let’s say that we do, would we still be able to move things around and pick up a half decent PG not named Rubio. Or is his contract so ridiculous that we’re handcuffed for years. Would something like Beverly and Love together be an impossibility? Because that doesn’t sound too bad.

To me it does. I don’t want to see the Jazz pay 30 mil a year for a dude in a suit to have front row tickets to Jazz games.

Grabbing Love gives us more flexibility with the other positions. It allows you to snag a Beverley. Signing a free agent has us jettisoning many guys with the room exception left to replace them. Trading for Love or Conley allows us to sign guys like Beverley or Jabari, and essentially upgrade both positions.

Regardless, we’re going to be capped out soon. If we haven’t made any meaningful progress by that point, we’re totally screwed. We’re actually kind of screwed as is, because grabbing Love is a realistic possibility. But despite its drawbacks (there are many), I view it overall as a positive step. As I’ve been months ahead on this, I’ll have to talk some people off the ledge, not only when it goes down, but when we part with a first rounder for him, too.

ETA: also, I think it makes Beverley very likely because he’s got a guaranteed starting spot on a playoff team that values his contributions. In an ideal world (taking that scenario as a given), id bring back Rubio to split the time with Beverley off the bench.

If we trade for Love or Conley during the draft before even seeing of Tobias or Russell or another want to come here in free agency, DL should be fired.

Seems to me like there is going to be major shakeups on a lot of teams this off season in an attempt to improve there rosters and move up the playoff latter. Some teams with solid decks already are going to make serious changes when they shouldn't! If the Jazz stay put pretty much and just tweak a little bit, their ability to pass teams who decided to make major changes will be enhanced by a factor of 10! The more you play together in basketball the better off your team will be and the better chance of winning basketball games as well. The Jazz have a winning "system" that doesn't need major tweaking and by just adding a player or two to that system we could be in business this year for a long playoff run!

You act as though he’s never done anything. He’s more aggressive than most gm’s

I think he's done a good job for the most part but I disagree that he's more aggressive than most GM's. I think he's more conservative than the majority of GM's around the league.

We would have already done that by now had Memphis said yes. It gives you a bit of insight into his read of this off-season. At least as of February.

There are more quality free agents available this summer than any summer I have ever seen. Half the league is a free agent. Less than half of the NBA teams have as much money as we have.

If we run it back with the same roster plus a rookie, we might as well put the team up for sale. We don't have ambition. We are fine with just being a playoff team.

I'm not saying that's what we will do, but if that happens, shame on DL.

Isn’t Houston looking to salary dump?

I’d heard they were making everyone not named Harden available.

Who knows. I hope whatever happens they end up worse. 8th seed and first round fodder sounds perfect to me.

If Kyrie leaves, Boston actually has money. If they can turn late lottery picks into Capella, we all know Houston can turn 1st rounders into something.

Shoot, Boston might trade Jaylen Brown for Capella. Brown only has 1 year left before his restricted free agent payday. And Boston has plenty of wings.

We are not running it back. Every single indication we have been given screams that. The way I see it, something like Love + Beverly is the absolute floor of what is going to happen. I wouldn't even be entirely upset with that as long as we do not give up anything for Love. We need to GET something back for that. Love + Beverly gives us our 4 out option and shooting from every position other than Gobert. It really, really shrinks our window though, so I want to believe every other option has been pursued first.
