how much salary does conley deserve ?

Please give strong evidence as to why it shouldn't from a fan standpoint.
Because it would create huge negative pressure on players.

And because it would take away from the importance of having a good gm.

And how do you even measure that on a fluid basis?

Contracts are good.

A smaller base contract with big incentives to hit certain benchmarks would be nice in this situation. And having a player who's agent hadn't made it aware he didn't want to be here would also be nice. Sure he's said otherwise but I have to ask, has he shown otherwise? At this point I really hope he doesn't want to be here so opting out is an option for next year.

Who decides that sliding scale? It's a terrible idea that isn't practical.
I think it's a great idea, just impossible to enact. The idea is great. The execution isn't reasonable.

Like if there were a perfect way to determine what a players actual play/production was worth (without all the obvious issues with selfishness etc) and they got exactly that amount of pay then it would be awesome.

Yes, if players have that burden of hitting certain levels game to game on top of trying to win games. That's a terrible environment for long term growth.

To me, if you sign a contract, you should play to the level of said contract or get ridiculed for not playing up to it. Sports 101.

I don't get dudes like you that are apologists for athletes with ****** contracts.

Do you still think Conley was a good addition to the Jazz with his contract?

I don't.

Define "play to the level" though. Is it based on box score stats, on/off, all star appearances, etc? There would need to be a metric that could fairly grade everyone and there isn't one, which is part of the beauty of basketball.

When Conley was signed to this contract he was with the Grizzlies and producing at a much higher rate. Even then it was a slight head scratcher, but wasn't ridiculous. Look at the numbers when he was signed to that contract. It was much more justifiable than what he has been producing for Utah. I still think there is a nervousness with him playing for another team (After being with the Grizzlies for over a decade). But he should be producing at a higher rate, no doubt about it. As confusing as his lack of production is, I still feel that he will eventually put it together. He's coming off a record year. This makes no sense at all why he's choking game after game.

For 32 million dollars, I expect, at least 30 million dollar play.

It's really not that hard of a metric.

Conley took away our PF money. This team would be so much better with Rubio and Crowder instead Conley. Both got issues but Crowder at the 4 is way better than anyone on our current roster playing the 4. And Niang can go find his stardom in China.

That's not "Sports 101". That's $*** for brains fanboy 101.
Nobody disagrees that players struggling, dealing with injuries, or declining level of play doesn't suck or isn't a hard pill to swallow (ask WAS about that John Wall contract). What do you want or expect? Without contracts the league would lose a TON of players and there would be no loyalty between players and organizations.

Yeah, mmkay, guy. Keep telling yourself that.

Once a player signs a contract their is an expectation set to what the contract is - both from the organization and fans.

It's clueless apologist fanboys like you that don't get it.

Mike Conley has a top 10 contract in the league. Mike Conley plays like a bench player - therefore, Conley deserves ridicule and has been a bad signing - to this point.
Sports 101.

Tfoh...

Like, I'm cool with signing a top 10 contract and understanding the player isn't a top 10 player, but Conley isn't a top 50 player right now.

That's hard to swallow.
