This is directly out of Putin's playbook.

Step 1 -- kill his fellow Russians
Step 2 -- blame the "others" for the killing
Step 3 -- play hero tough guy who will bring the "others" to justice
Step 4 -- feed radiation to anyone who asks too many questions

He did it with apartment bombings while Boris Yeltsin was in power.

He did it with the Chechen rebel hostage situation. What is 100% certain in that one is that he refused to negotiate only to storm the school and kill more kids than rebels.

No need for anything so exotic now. Anyone asking questions is mobilized. If a crowd gathers to protest, the authorities force them on busses headed for the front lines. It is only the hyper-wealthy that need to be concerned with standing too close to open windows.

The whole impetus behind the invasion was de-Nazification, its a bit heavy handed with the swastika t-shirt from a propaganda stand point but you know; these Nazis, must be stopped.

If and if is a big word we believe these reports of thousands of Russians fleeing the press gang (sorry call up) then this could be a measure to try to stabilise things internally. Its dire straights for Putin if this is the case, lets say he managed to mobilise 150,000 men how the **** is he going to supply and equip them when he can't even supply the troops he has in the field?

Which is what amazes me the most about this. At least 3/4ths of this speech is stuff we’ve heard laundered ad nauseum by Republicans and Republican controlled media. It’s anti American, it’s pro conspiracy, it’s attacking the LGBT community. It’s a war against liberal democracy itself.

This is what western democracies in the 21st century are up against. We are up against right wing authoritarians who weaponize the freedoms of liberal democracies to attack liberal democracies. Putin exploits our freedom of the press and religion to spew disinformation and turn religious people into hate filled zombies that attack fellow countrymen of marginalized populations.

Putin’s speech seemed more directed at sewing fest and division in America than anything else. Putin knows that if he can make this another blue v red issue, that he’ll have a chance to pull himself out of the quagmire he put himself in. His useful idiots and bought off political party are already trying to turn Republican voters against aiding Ukraine. And honestly, seeing how successful Republicans have been over the last few years to politicize things like blackmailing Zelensky, politicizing masks and vaccines, politicizing history and LGBT rights, putin is probably right. Putin could convince 40 percent of Americans that the moon is made of cheese as long as he and his useful idiots on Fox News can convince viewers that by believing so they’d hurt democrats.

The GOP’s platform is: enrich the already filthy rich, protect Putin and Trump at all costs, and wage white reactionary grievance against the majority of the country (aka own the libs).

This would be ideal. Ukraine recovers all of its lost territory including Crimea. Meanwhile Russia withers and dies as a military and state. Good riddance. Maybe later this century when they’ve grown out of their corrupt state, they can rejoin the rest of the civilized world. Until then, Russia can enjoy North Korea like status.
