Jazz select Cody Williams at pick 10

Performance wise, I think the thing Cody did well was get to the basket and finish. Besides that, I think his season at Colorado was very disappointing/not much else going on. Even with the +/- stuff he was one of the most underwhelming players amongst draft prospects. You're really betting on his development.

BTW, I think we should talk about his brother as much as we talk about everyone else's brother. In other words, it doesn't really matter that Jalen was thicccc. If you think the brother is important, keep the same energy and do analysis using everyone else's brothers. It can't only matter when the brother is good.

We will be debating Cody Williams and Matas Buzelis for the next decade.

I am glad we got our guy but I was thrilled to see Matas fall to us and we passed. Hopefully I am very wrong.

God damn man, try fun on for size

I'm surprised he was there at 10. I'm happy with the pick as I feel he has a high ceiling and the odds of him being a bust are low compared to a lot of the other players in that range.

I definitely am concerned if Cody can defend, but I am also worried about his weight and that's a huge part of it. Beyond that, he was very inactive on defense. Despite his length, one of the worst (if not the worst) rebounder relative to his size and a very low steal rate. Would be an extreme outlier on paper if he ended up being a good defender in the NBA.

He's not a guy that plays super hard or makes a lot of things happen.

This is a good take, but I tend to land on the other side of the argument. I’ll take the skinny guy with good size who’s good with the ball in his hands and can shoot but maybe got bullied around rebounding and defensively due to his weight as opposed to the tall wing with an NBA ready body who can rebound and defend but can’t dribble or shoot.

The draft is always a crapshoot and it sounds like this one is even more so but Williams can put on weight and if he has the want to, can be coached up into a decent defender. I’d rather miss while taking a shot on a guy that can create his own shot and hit a decent percentage of them.

I might be a little bit biased towards Williams though because I remember seeing a piece on him during the season about how he might be hurting his draft stock by playing hurt but refused to sit out and bail on his team. I’m a sucker for those types.

Lowest weight for a "forward" in combine history.
Just curious what 6 foot 11 Kevin Durant weighed when he was drafted (I have no idea but I remember him being freakishly skinny)

The weight is not a concern at all. I weighed about 50 pounds more at 28 than I did at 18 and it did not require effort at all.
On the other hand, not every human gains weight like every other human does so what happened to you may be irrelevant in relation to what happens to him

I think that's somewhat fair, gaining weight isn't impossible and that will definitely help in these areas....but I do think his lack of production in areas besides scoring is reflective of his mentality. There are a lot of skinny guys that guy on the basis of being super tough, energetic, and active. While Cody is skilled and talented, I definitely would not describe him in the aforementioned ways.

215 lbs. So almost 40 lbs heavier than Cody.
but also 3 inches taller right?
