I just wish the Jazz would stop being a farm team for others. It's been 20+ years since Stockton and Malone and I feel like every time the Jazz have developed some good players, they couldn't trade them away for future assets quickly enough. I just wanna watch one single Jazz team go through a natural life cycle. It doesn't matter if they win a championship or keep losing in the first round, I just want to see another good player spend his career there.

I wanna be able to buy a ****ing jersey I will still want to wear 3-4 years later. I wanna be able to pick a profile photo on this forum and not feel like I need 3 backup ones over the next few seasons just in case.

I don't watch college basketball because it's a giant load of crap in so many ways, but probably the biggest reason is the constant turnover. I don't want the Jazz to be like that just to satisfy the vanity of a man who built one championship team in 30 years.
Such is the life of a small market team. It’s not like the jazz just grooms them to trade them. Mitchell wanted out, Deron wanted out, Boozer we held on to and he signed with the bulls. Hayward we held on to and he signed with the hornets. With Gobert we did what was best for business, and got a godfather offer or we would’ve kept him but knew we were losing Mitchell. It was time to rebuild. You act like the franchise is this impatient, impulsive scatterbrained franchise. This is just what it’s like to be a small market team.

With Markkanen they tried to get Bridges, and had they gotten him I heard they thought they could also get George here. Now teams are interested in Markkanen. The Jazz don’t want to trade him but everyone has their price and it’s a steep one. By trading Markkanen they could secure their future. For example the Spurs, thought to be interested in Lauri own the Hawks first which looks to be top five in the lottery. We could potentially own four picks in a crazy deep, strong draft.

Thank God the front office doesn't think like you. Nothing is worse than being stuck in no man's land and that is exactly where the Mitchell and Gobert team had cemented itself.

If Lauri has any integrity, he's not writing an extension after Ainge is done holding these bidding wars. It's a clear indicator that he will be used as a trade piece in the future, no matter what the FO tells him. Considering the timelines, by the time Utah is ready to contend, his descent has likely already begun and would get traded regardless.

So the answer to the original question is yes, he will get traded eventually anyway. And for his sake, I hope he gets traded before he's eligible to extend so he doesn't need to be the one who makes the difficult but correct choice for his career that is not extending. Unless his biggest goal is to advance on the most games play without a single playoff game ladder, which would be a disappointment.

Eh, if he's getting traded, he may as well squeeze every last cent from Utah before he's dealt. His contract follows him regardless, so may as well make the best of it.

Lauri being traded on a long term contract is the way he gets to a contending team.

Going to FA only gets him to one of the capspace teams which are usually the scrub teams.

Besides its life changing money and one injury next season could mean he never gets another chance.

Also him signing the deal it has nothing to do with lack of integrity. Its how this business works.

Extending guarantees another wasted year in Utah without any say of his future unless he becomes a diva à la Harden, which he won't. He's not young any more, and his prime years can be over very soon.

I couldn't care less how many hundreds of millions he will make during his career, he and his family are set for life and he knows it, it's purely down to basketball now. Writing an extension gives Ainge full authority to do whatever he wants to do with him, if he wants to sell his soul for money and be remembered as another one of Ainge's chess pieces, go ahead.

It’s very easy to say you don’t care about money when it’s not your name on the contract. These contracts are going for almost a quarter of a billion dollars. Imagine all the good a person could do with that kind of money. I definitely prefer to see it go to good people - and Lauri is good people.

If I were Lauri, I’d prefer to either be traded to the Spurs or extended by the Jazz. The ability to renegotiate the contract before extending is huge.

I might be jinxing it but I don’t think it happens. Listened to the Tony Jones interview with the local Sacramento station. I think we know we need to tank… I think we know the easiest way to do that and most “profitable” way to do it is to move Lauri… but I think they want the Bridges package plus and are just seeing if it’s out there. I won’t be surprised if they extend Lauri and then move other guys. The return likely not as great of course but the goal in tact.

Here's why I don't think a deal is imminent: Lauri can't pass the other team's physical at the moment. His shoulder injury still hasn't healed as he's not playing for Finland this summer.

And here is the answer to the small-team problem: draft and develop foreign players. They rarely want to be traded: you already mentioned Gobert, but the same was true for Okur, Ingles and Kirilenko. And, looking at other teams, Dirk stayed with the same franchise through thick and thin, Duncan was happy to ride out the last years on the not-so-contending Spurs.

Then we will never get a superstar.

Funny thing is that i would rather watch a bunch of try hard guys who want to be here dive as deep into the playoffs as they can than watch a few superstars who came because their team traded them here, who will leave as soon as their contract is up but might get a championship in the mean time.

You think so? Well, look at the rotation (assuming that we have whoever we have now minus Clarkson).
Bigs: Kessler, Collins, Eubanks, the most ready young player Hendricks - below average but quite passable.
SF: Lauri, Brice, Cody - actually, above average for the league
Guards: Sexton, Cody, Keyonte, Collier, Juzang - now here it is where we are weak but we still have Sexton and if any of the young players take off we can be well below average but not exactly atrocious

In short, the Jazz are not really a guaranteed botom-4 team in the league if everyone plays hard and one of the young players plays well (which we all want, right?).

Now, without Lauri it could look really bad. Otherwise, we need to trade either Collins or Sexton.
