Help Dunn, get to the salary floor on the Clips dime, minor (tiny) asset. Not sure what yall were expecting. The real miss here is not moving him at the trade deadline.I guess I just don't see the point of this. Why bother? Unless we're trying to help Dunn, or the cash exceeds the buyout. I mean, a second round pick swap? Whoopee!
Could be something if the Jazz are good and the Clippers suck in whatever year in the future this is (you can find guys through about pick 40).Nice, asset! Nothing sexier than a 2nd round swap.
They’re just trying to save money.Cap masters, please explain the clippers side of the deal.
They didn’t have the cap space to sign Dunn as an FA until they dumped Westbrook salary?
They just wanted to dump westbrook?
Something else?

The cash and doing right by Dunn are the biggest motivators here.WB salary is $4M. They could not sign Dunn to this money outright as they only have min. Trading WB allows Dunn to get a contract of up to 200% of WB’s $4M outgoing salary.
Don't read anything into it. This thing was done when FA opened. Tony knew about it really early. Here’s my stab at making this bigger than it probably is:
This might be a signal that the Jazz are gonna trade Lauri. If they R&E him, they’ll be at the salary floor, at which point they can do a lot better than this for renting the precious remaining capspace. If they don’t do the R&E then they should be looking for opportunities to eat up some cap and the asset the Jazz got out of this seems more in line with that outcome.
The Jazz only have 3 second round picks, 29/30/31. If the Clippers are really bad in w/e year the pick is and the Jazz are really good, that's the difference between drafting a Filipowski level talent and getting someone with an extremely small shot at the NBA.I guess I just don't see the point of this. Agreed. There isn't any harm in making sure Dunn got his.The cash and doing right by Dunn are the biggest motivators here.
Cash can’t exceed $7,005,000Cash Considerations can be over $7M these days. This easily clears WB’s salary. I’m sure we wanted to do right by Dunn….but I think the real motivation/negotiation point here is how many golf trips Ryan paid off.
I think a large portion of it was getting Dunn to the Clips, honestly. We do free Dunn's caphold and still have the roster spot open when we buyout Russ.Consider this....The Hornets got DEN's 25, 29, and 30 second round picks for taking on Reggie Jackson's $5.25M contract. The Jazz got a single second round swap and cash to take on WB's $4M deal.
The Hornets sold their cap space for future picks. The Jazz sold their cap space for extra cash.
