Westbrook to Utah in Dunn sign and trade

I think a large portion of it was getting Dunn to the Clips, honestly. We do free Dunn's caphold and still have the roster spot open when we buyout Russ.

Cap hold meaningless. Roster spot, also meaningless. There is no difference between trade/no trade. It's the same. We may have wanted to do a favor to Dunn, but we also could have asked for more pick compensation instead of cash like the Hornets. We took the money.

In some ways you can argue a 2nd round swap is more valuable than a first round swap if the team that is getting swapped on still owns it first. That team could be in position to tank and wouldnt change it's decision to tank based on a 2nd round swap.

If Lauri gets moved, Russ could go with him or we could just keep him as a tank commander. $4M is cheap in NBA terms. Ya ya, "just let the kids play". However it could be entertaining and there would still be minutes available. Trade some of Collins, Sexton, and Clarkson and then Russ could have a portion of their minutes with plenty left for the young guys.

Consider this....The Hornets got DEN's 25, 29, and 30 second round picks for taking on Reggie Jackson's $5.25M contract. The Jazz got a single second round swap and cash to take on WB's $4M deal.

The Hornets sold their cap space for future picks. The Jazz sold their cap space for extra cash.
Or they need to get to the salary floor…

Does the buyout mean Russ's salary counts against Utah's cap? Does this move eat in what they could offer Lauri for the R&E?

Eh, depending on future transactions, I disagree. Larger deals alot of times require some "seats" to facilitate taking multiple players back. The swap isn't entirely meaningless either. It's not much, but it can grease future deals, such as the type that got Gay off the roster.

Well yeah, it's not a huge win, but it's better than not doing the deal.

Salary floor is not a consideration here, it can be achieved with or without WB. The difference is that we are not paying "real" money to achieve it using this route. This is a cash motivated trade.

The roster spot is meaningless in the sense that we have the exact same amount of roster spots before and after this deal. We did not gain a roster spot.

False, it was probably mostly a Dunn motivated trade. The Jazz do care about their image with players. It's well documented.

Well there was obviously a hold up over the return. Ainge was probably holding on at least a 2nd outright, but something made his miserly *** change the calculation…

Even if we wanted to do right by Dunn, we still could have asked for picks. Our incentive in the deal was cash, this is factual.
I didnt know if you ask for something it happens...

I'm sure the Jazz asked, but are they going to go hard when the ultimate goal is to get Dunn paid?

Do we even know how much $$$ was traded? That would be kind of key if you want to claim "factual"
