Whatever the case is, it appears Danny Ainge has even more leverage than we thought because he has the Warriors flip-flopping and consulting Draymond Green while Steph is saying the opposite. (if what he is saying is true)

While tone watch is at 6.2% leverage watch is at 99.7% for the Jazz. In this situation we don't even need the third team... we are the third team.

I have absolutely no idea what that even means.

In a vacuum, I'm sure the average NBA player hates being traded. But when the alternative is quite literally wasting your All Star level prime on a tanking team, sitting out games for dubious reasons and killing your stats playing with a bunch of kids... do you still "want to stay"?

I mean, it's extremely likely Lauri will be traded anyway in the near future. The timeline just doesn't make sense. He must know that.

Mid last season, I started raising the point that the Jazz should trade Lauri ASAP when it became apparent that winning was not the goal and the timelines of the player and the team wouldn't work in the long run. I was ridiculed and called crazy. Well, here we are now.

Markkanen should have been gone at the trade DL. Ainge is senile.
Lol
So much downside.
Nice

If Lauri prefers the Jazz, he can pretty much force that to happen.
Yes and no... if GS just ponies up then Lauri will likely have his best chance at getting paid be in GS. I do think there is a contract, leverage play to part of this from Utah's perspective.

I'm not in charge of tone watch anymore but I'd say its in the 5% range still as I could see GS saying "eff it they can have what they want" and trying to get a couple more runs in before Steph fades.

Lauri Markkanen does not want to be traded.

He wants to stay in Utah and play for the Utah Jazz.

It's not about UTA's leverage over GSW. If Lauri wants to play in UTA most, he will stay.

No, the Jazz can trade him if they choose.

What Lauri has control over is when he signs his extension, which means something over the coming season

Of course they can trade him, but why would any team give up a massive package for a player without some assurance from Lauri? Lauri can simply avoid being dealt by telling the other team "no".

Which leads into the Jazz don't want to trade him.

This hasn't been a Jazz are shopping Lauri thing. This has been the NBA has been pursuing Lauri thing. So the Jazz set a price, and either somebody meets it or they don't

And this is precisely my point. If Lauri's preference is to play for the Jazz, this trade ain't happening.

And they could still call his bluff and do a deal. I think its a partial deterrent of course... but that's why tone watch would be around 5% if my meter was still running.

Extremely high asking price + No assurances (to other team) don't mix. There's no way that ends up in a deal that both sides agree on. It will be tank+Lauri next year.
