Should the NBA abolish the 3 point line?

That too has already been suggested and discussed ages ago and will never happen. Changing basketball scoring in such a fundamental way just because a bunch of bored NBA fans have decided they want more drop steps would be bizarre.
I never said I wanted to do this it is a solution to the OPs suggestion. I am purest.

If you're going to keep the 3 point line, they should create a 3 second violation for the dudes camping out on the corner 3. That will make sure the players have to keep moving and can't just run to their spot. Mark it out from 10 feet out from the baseline.
You know how insanely hard that would be for refs to keep track of?

i do agree the time is coming something really needs to be done. There's too many games now that i just can't watch. Luckily the NBA has never been shy about tinkering with their product.

i have no idea what it should be outside of pushing the 3 pt line back further

Every team should get an allotment of 3 pointers per game. After say, 15 made threes, they only count for 2 after that,

That's not the solution, but I do think modern offenses prioritizing getting up as many threes as possible is god awful to watch and bad for the product.

That's another awful solution.

So if you are down 3 with 1 second left and you've used all your 3's you now cant tie the game?

All of these solutions are just complete ***, no offense.

Change the lane time limit. Say, keep it at a defensive 3 second, but make it 5 seconds for the offense. That would make it even easier to get buckets inside, thereby increasing the value of the shot.

Or, make a dunk worth 3 points.

Making dunks worth more points would absolutely kill the value of small guards even more than they are already being phased out to a large degree, so that's a hard no.

Ok, I know this is going to be rightly criticized but you could make the 3 worth 2.5 points. It makes the scores messy but it does decintivizes the 3 point shot.

You could push the 3 back a foot like everyone says and make the corner 3 worth 2.5.

Read the rest of the post and you’ll notice that I said it wasn’t the solution.

Can someone explain what makes a 3 pointer so much worse to watch than 18 foot jumper?
Sure. You don’t catch and shoot an 18 foot jumper. Creating difficult isolation buckets isn’t efficient but it’s much more entertaining than watching mediocre shooters bomb away on catch and shoot threes.

I don't really think there is a problem, but would be interested in trying out some new stuff in a league somewhere.

Maybe several different zones worth different points. At that point you probably have to have some type of robot to keep track of points. I also don't think you have to keep integer based scoring.

I'm more just curious how different scoring options could affect the strategy of the game.
