Ace Bailey Hype thread

I got Donovan PTSD. I think one of the problems with Donovan is he was too good too fast on a team that needed his scoring/shooting volume and it blew up his ego, basically.

We need Ace to stop looking this good or we’ll have problems!!1

(Kidding… mostly…)
Donovan did nothing wrong to say his ego blew up on the court. His coaches gave him a role and he did the best he could to fulfill it. Some injuries dampened some fans praise for him. Some also turned on him when he spoke out about racism. He acted professionally when the trade rumors started and never said he wanted out of Utah before the trade happened. He didn't get leave like Hayward did he got traded. Now he is playing at a higher level which many ex Jazz players don't when they leave Utah. I still haven't heard anything Negative from him about Utah so I don't really understand why some people criticize him or make up stuff about him.

The thing that gets me most excited about last night is his demeanor. He didn't celebrate once or stop to flex into the camera-- he just turned around got back on defense. He was playing against Kevin Durant much of the night and didn't show the slightest hint of a thought that he didn't belong in that situation
Did you hear what Durant said about him. Durant was asked if the comparisons between Ace and him were warranted? Durrant didn't even flinch. He said, Yes. The kid is very talented basketball player and he was glad Utah drafted him. Utah has a great organization for young players to be developed. That is superhigh praise especially coming from Durrant who isn't known for giving out compliments. I am excited about Ace, his attitude seems great, and he acts like he is older than 19. Plus, he listens to the vets and has a great worker ethic according to Marco. He wants to be great. I am excited about this team. If the Jazz could get lucky and get the PG Peterson then the rebuild will be done and the Jazz will be legitimate contenders in a few years.

Right. I’m saying the situation naturally inflated his ego. I don’t think it’s his fault he got there (circumstances), but it sounds like year 3 Donovan through the end of his tenure was a ****ing turd.

Andy Larsen has hinted pretty heavily that when that state legislator called out Donovan in the wake of George Floyd, he made his decision that he was done with Utah.

That isn’t saying he wasn’t a primadonovan in the years that followed (and his media leaks and non-genuine personas weren’t great regardless) but that call out appears to have been a major factor.

Forgot to add: I have a conspiracy theory hunch that the highlighter yellow jerseys were Donovan’s idea and Ryan trying to make him happy.

You’ll think I’m crazy, but if you look at the timeline and some of the interviews around that time…

Zero chance Don pushed the highlighter jersey

I mean, there was stuff brewing that entire year, we just didn’t see anything crystallized until “irreconcilable differences” with the COVID ****. I’m not necessarily talking about him wanting to stay or leave, I’m talking about him being the epicenter of a poisoned locker room that eventually yielded *THE* most embarrassing team in Jazz history in 2022.

I honestly think at his core he’s got a good soul but I don’t know how realistic it would be for any 20 year old that becomes an international star, get everything they ask for, and are practically worshipped by the home team fans almost overnight to keep a level head.
