What's new

Jaren Jackson Jr. traded to the Jazz

Been watching a lot of film and looking into a of numbers on Jaren. He's a tough player to evaluate because his performance has fluctuated a ton year to year. He's great one year, then the next year he's just a mediocre player. It's difficult to know how much you can chalk that up to the internal turmoil/injuries or just him being inconsistent. This years he's struggling, but you could honestly make the case that he was all nba level just last season.

I still hold the same feeling that we likely overpaid for him. But I'm fairly certain Hardy can make the chunkiness work on offense. Until I see different results I'm comfortable assuming Hardy will get the job done on offense and have the opposite feeling about the defensive end.

He's a strong 3rd/4th guy. But don't count on him being your 2nd in command.

JJJ is really more of a scorer, but he does play almost entirely at the top of the key as a hub type big. The more he can develop that passing out the better, but I he should be able to get a lot of buckets in this system. He has more than enough skill to do some simple two man games stuff with Key. I think he will bump Lauri's usage down, which is just fine in my eyes. Lauri will be more like 22/23 Lauri where he a slightly less usage, but he was more efficient.

Big question is still the defense. With WK and JJJ, we should be more of a rim protecting/stay home type of team like we were with Rudy. We should not be selling out and giving up the most 3's in the league. Hardy is so unproven as a defensive coach, but I have cautious optimism that he will actually implement some systems once we have defensive talent. If not, we need a defensive coordinator type.

ace is 6'8.75". he was measured prior to the draft as an 18 year old. it's a fair round up and it's possible he's grown 1/4". more importantly, however before we quibble over 1/4", is his wingspan which is 7'1" and his standing reach which is 8'11" - longer and higher than most 6'9" dudes.
My wife quibbles about a 1/4" alllll the time.

Well then it’s a good thing we already have Lauri and Key as our 1st and second options. He will be a good 3rd option on offense and will greatly improve the defense, especially next season when he and Walker are playing together.

This is again for the 1000x why you do your work early. The cocky attitude of "we will fix this later" was so damn stupid. The path to tank is a lot harder now. It isn't completely unpredictable that it could get harder. Something can always make your preferred route difficult... even if you can't pinpoint what that one thing will be.

JJJ hard to bench but they can slow play it until after AS break. Lauri and Key will need to really play along. The other thing... Williams and Koncar are going to be much less tanky than Taylor and WCJ imo. We've made tank later much much harder... now that Mil and Mem have joined the fray and we play them 4 times by season end... like we just needed to lose a few extra games and 5th would be a near certainty... right now I think 6th is likely... 7th not out of the question depending on Milwaukee and Memphis.

Yes, but also it was 1000% predictable that the tank race would tighten down the stretch.

Has it occurred to those that are so sure that we’ll be able to keep the pick or move up at this point that other teams think they can do the same thing? And that someone will be right at the expense of the other? At a certain point you just have a better team than your tanking competition and it’s not a question of willpower. We know this. We’ve known this.
“We’ll catch up on retirement in late 40s. There’s plenty of time. Relax. I’ve got this totally covered. Don’t be anxious.”

“Well yeah, nobody could’ve predicted that I’d lose my job and that we’d have really expensive and flukey medical costs and that the I’d get divorced. Can’t really save now because all those totally unpredictable things.”
