Following potential 2014 draftees

You're right, he didn't defend him the entire time. You got me!

Randle sure is a great defender. It's just too bad you don't have any proof of it.

LOL!

Case in point.

Who said Randle was a great defender? Please find this quote for me.

See how some of these folks react? It's all or nothing.

Let me spell it out for you: Randle isn't Dwight Howard. But he isn't close to being boozer.

I see no reason why Randle isn't, won't be, and won't continue to be a good defender. Is he elite? Nope. But it's pretty clear when folks criticize his defense it's only to grasp at straws. Typically, it's used by those (in general) trying to diminish his accomplishments while exaggerating Gordon's.

Can anyone point to a guy that became a better defender in the pros than he was in college? I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but I cannot think of it. I do know players that developed quite a bit on offense, however. I guess that is my biggest bias when it comes to Gordon v. Randle. I have always coveted a lock down guy that we can throw against somebody running roughshod on us offensively. I have seen enough of Gordon play live to know that he is coachable and has a high bb IQ. Worst case I think you get a top 5 wing defender with the ability to score moving to the basket, best case is probably a level-headed, prime Kirilenko who plays better man-on-man defense. That's quite a player. I just think the mean for Randle is Kanter who we already have. Best case is possibly Zach Randolph? I'm not sure Kanter can't be that player either. I think the odds are that Randle will be better than Kanter, but will he be superior enough to give up Gordon for?
Again, I'm just happy that we get to talk about CHOOSING Randle or Gordon rather than hope someone becomes damaged goods and falls to us like which is generally where we are.

Paul George comes to mind.

You specifically mentioned me, so that's what I'm talking about. That's typically what happens when you mention a person.

Could you detail what makes you think I'm a Gordon homer? Or are you just going to ignore that like everything else when you get proven wrong?

What the hell have you proven again?

And what part of Gordon homers do you not understand? Other than every single part?

You should talk to your doctor about lithium. jus sayin

Could be, but he is a strange exception as he was still growing quite a bit after he was drafted and he played for a pathetic Fresno team coming off suspension, so some of his talent was well hidden. He could have been an all world defender in Fresno and it wouldn't have mattered much, as his guy could throw it to someone else for the layup.

Watch the games Thriller Christ. Randle sometimes puts in the effort, but his lack of height and alligator arms limit him on defense. There was at least 2 times I recall that he didn't even make it to half court on a fast break when he was on D. Kentucky's Lee and Dakari even managed to make it down the court.

Another thing I don't like about Randle: He plays out of control. I can remember a few times where Randle got the ball on the perimeter and didn't drive to the basket with reckless abandon and throw up a wild shot. If he mixed in pull up J's or even drove with more control I would like the aggressiveness.

I'm just not a Randle fan. I like Poythress as much as Randle so I may be crazy. Poythress' D and athleticism is impressive. With our second round pick if he declares and falls, I would take him in a heartbeat. IIRC, last year he had confidence issues and not having the drive. Watching him this year for the 10+ games I've watched of Kentucky show me that he has improved. He crashes the offensive boards so hard and has had some really nice drives along the way too. I've been wrong and right through the years; Right-Loved Paul George, Hibbert, Stephenson, Kawhi Leonard and Matthews and really liked Bradley Beal. I thought wrong- Almond was going to be great, CJ a solid starter, Burks nothing more than an average 6th man and Derrick Williams a star. I loved the Trey Burke pick, but time will tell with that. Point is we all have wrong and right, but my opinion is Randle isn't worthy of a top 10 pick. You can disagree all you want and I respect that, but that's my stance on Randle.

Oh and Thriller, quit acting all tough guy and that you are right on every freakin topic.

theres definitely a bunch of Centers that are much better defensively than they were in college, DeAndre Jordan is probably the best example but its tough judging blocks in the nba vs blocks in college.

Mike Conley Jr has improved alot on defense since college

Paul George has gone on record saying he didn't like playing defense in college. It wasn't till he got to the NBA and was really taught how to do it that it became an integral part of his game.

Jazz need:

-A go to scorer
-Defensive stopper
-preferably a wing player

We need Wiggins.

Let the other teams figure out this whole Randle vs Gordon vs Smart crap

Wait, what? Smart is in this conversation? When did that happen?

If we can draft Embiid, I would consider trading Favors for Aaron Gordon.

Burke/Hayward/Gordon/Kanter/Embiid

Interesting. But I think most teams would rather take a chance on Gordon's potential and pay him roughly 1/3 the amount they'd have to pay Favors.
