I have been wanting to make this thread for a while but have not had time. Surprised that someone else didnt already make it tbphwy.
Some of my grades have to do with expectations and some dont.
Gobert: (A+) I remember watching him at the jazz scrimmage i went to and just gushing about him during and after. There was no burks, hayward, kanter, or favors at the scrimmage and Gobert shined SO bright amongst all the scrubs. He covered so much ground on defense. He was everywhere. He was extremely intense and passionate during every minute of a the scrimmage. Never let of the intensity gas pedal while the game was going. Then when the game would stop he would flip a switch and start smiling and joking with teammates. All the guys loved him and his intensity was contagious. I knew right then we had something special.
Then he blew us all away during the season.
Favors: (B+) Favors improved in most all aspects of his game. Always solid, mostly gets his numbers quietly, efficient, a neccessary piece to win games. Wish he was more alpha than he is thoug.
Hayward: (A-) hayward got the huge contract, i puked and then got over it, hayward mostly lived up to the contract. He had a few slumps but was our best player overall and put up an all star worthy season.
Burks: (Incomplete) If i had to give him a grade its probably a C or C-. He didnt attack as much as normal and was not finishing at a very high rate. was not getting to the line as much. Still struggling on defense and taking long two's. hit his free throws and 3's at career high percentages though and seemed to try to play in the system.
Exum: (D+) Good defense, horrible offense. He is young and was not ready for the nba. Impressed that he played in all 82 games though.
Trey: (C-) Would have been a worse grade but he took his benching with class and seemed to improve a bit after it. had some pretty big games scattered among lots of crappy ones.
Ingles: (B) I expected total garbage from him and early on that is what he was. He made huge improvements as the season went along though and is easily the funniest player on the team. Great glue guy. I was always amazed at how good he was when he was the only one back on defense and the opposition had numbers in a fast break situation. He often stopped the other team from scoring (without fouling) in those situations which is very hard to do.
Millsap: (D+) He is what he is. A d-leaguer getting by on hustle, heart, and defense. Good for him. Hopefully he wont be good enough (due to having our other guys be too good) to crack the rotation next year. (maybe im too hard on him. i actually like him ok)
Hood: (B) I had low expectations and he did have some rough patches (and injuries) but by the end of the year he looked like one of our better players and at times the jazz ran the offense through him to alot of success. Great pick at 21.
Booker: (C+ or B-) i cant decide. Booker was a fan favorite providing toughness, kanter hate, lots of good dunks, hustle and the occasional three pointer.
Kanter: **** him.
Snyder: (A) He changed the culture of the team around, was not scared to try new approaches with lineups and schemes, always adjusting, and looked like a crazed cyborg often. We all love him right?
(not giving grades to the rest of the guys like cooley, cotton, evans, johnson, etc cause they didn't matter enough...... I dont think i forgot anyone important did I?)
I think the next couple of years will be some of the most memorable of my 30+ years of jazz fandom. Im so excited and cant wait.
