Are you guys really talking abou the Jazz moving out of Utah?

If any team should be moved, it should be Atlanta. Worst fans IMO. Even when they a good playoff team they hardly ever sold out an arena.

I don't know why we have Hayward on this roster if he declined our offer. We all know some stupid team will offer him more than our original offer. If we aren't going to match why not attempt to move him right now so we can get something out of him?

I certainly don't know that an offer to Hayward will go unmatched. How do you know that?

Agree. I think the Jazz will match ANY offer for Hayward. And when I say that, I think Lindsey will go MAX if he needs to. Don't necessarily agree with paying him that much, I just think the Jazz have really no tax worries until it comes time to re-up Favors and Hayward and Burks, Burke, Kanter, Gobert, etc. are all off their rookie deals.

I don't know. If the Jazz pay Hayward the max, burks and kanter will probably demand around 12 million each (at least). That will put the Jazz at around 60 million with those 4 (favors included). With Just Trey Burke (about 4 Million) Gobert (2 Million) new rookies (4 million if picked around 8-10, hopefully more if top 3 pick; GS pick at 2 million or so) that puts Jazz at 72 million + in 2017 (right now the luxury tax is at 71 million. Jazz would only have 8 players and be at the luxury tax in this scenario. Hopefully Jazz can resign Hayward, Burks and/or Kanter for less than I listed above.

Sorry, don't have the time or desire to get more exact numbers, but we don't know what the Luxary tax will be anyway, and we have no idea what Kanter and Burks will be worth a year from now when its time to re-sign.

Kevin Martin makes 7 million a year.

Monta Ellis makes 10 million a year.


Not comparing their games specifically to Burks, but all those players are known for their ability to score. Those are how much they get paid.

Yes, they do.
And what helps Utah with Burks (and Hayward) is that they will be RFA's. Utah can match any offer and likely will. Jazz are in great financial shape. There aren't (or rather, there won't be after this season) any bad contracts. We won't be paying washed-up vets exorbitant salaries. Hayward and Burks aren't superstars. They'll probably draw some interest - and Lindsey may even tell them to go out and see what their market value is if they don't like Utah's offer. But in the end, a team making an offer has to clear - and keep that cap space available - if they were to sign either to an offer sheet. And they'd do that knowing Utah could, and probably would, match.

This a much different situation than Matthews. Portland knew matching their offer would put Utah into the luxury tax.

I agree with with Cy. It's highly unlikely Alec would get $12M. I see Hayward ultimately signing for about the same as Favors. Justification will be that he's not a big, but he's obviously a more integral part of the offense. Burks IS going to blow up next season as a starter or as a 6th man. Be prepared for him to get $8M or so. I predict the Jazz will eventually move Kanter. Back-up 5 mins will go to Gobert and Lindsey will draft or sign another PF to pair with Marvin (yes, I do think he'll be back with the Jazz next season).

I did say average. If Favors got 12 million off his potential, then Kanter will likely get that, but could be closer to max if he plays well. If Burks continues to play well and is more consistent, he could be at about 10 million per, especially if Hayward gets max. He will likely try to test FA to get as much as possible. Like I said, they could be less, but I don't think its a given that they do. I was putting together a possible scenario. Now it might be worse case, but it is enough to consider if you want to pay Hayward max, because you might not be able to keep them all.

Also, if you take 5 million off that, you are still in a bad scenario if Burke demands close to 10 million per in 2018.

I agree with all of this, and with what Cy is saying, I'm just saying that if you pay Hayward the max, it probably isn't outrageous to think Burks might get around 10-11 per and Kanter 13-14 per and it would cause some trouble in a few years when its time to re-sign Burke.
