1500 Missing Children

This story is about a month old, but in these crazy times I don't think it got the attention it deserved. Federal agencies have lost track of 1500 children who arrived at our border unaccompanied by their parents. This is a scandal that ought to be leading on the nightly news and is barely getting noticed.

Now ICE is pursuing a policy of separating accompanied children from their parents who cross the border illegally. How are we to trust that they are not losing these children as well? I believe when the dust settles on the Trump administration we are going to look back on this and wonder how Americans let this happen.

Horrible story.

But remember John Kelly recently said that, “these children being separated from their families will be taken care of by child protection services or whatever.”

Clearly, he seemed about as interested in these children as trump does about learning about government.

Many of those kids will be lost in human trafficking. But white evangelicals (recently were polled as the least concerned with taking care of immigrants) can’t be concerned with that. And they’re trump’s base. Hell, Mormons can’t be concerned with that. I saw in a poll a few months ago that 60 percent of Utahns approve Trump’s presidency. Unbelievable. If this is what American Christianity has to offer then good riddance to it.

Along the same lines, these parents are being forced to wear yellow bracelets and deported. Yellow bracelets you ask? Yeah it should ring familiar. When you empower fascists don’t be surprised when history echoes a familiar voice. Why don’t we just go full MAGA and then the bracelets into yellow stars of David and deport all of the detained immigrants to concentration camps? #MAGA

Is it really the trump admin that’s empowering racists and the horrible treatment of immigrants? Or is trump reflecting what a large segment of white evangelicals truly believe and they’re now free to act this way because trump was elected?

What I’m saying is that once trump is taken out of office and the dust settles, what’s going to change? Will the same 35-40 percent of this country remain firm in their belief that people should be treated this way? I wonder if the GOP has been rotten to the core and dying to treat immigrants like this for a long time? And now that trump and congress look the other way, they’re able to.

I do believe that conservatives and evangelicals love this country.
I do believe that conservatives and evangelicals love their God.
I do believe that conservatives and evangelicals love power more than God, and their country. And that is why they were willing to back donnie.

There's a bit of sway in there about how they want to use their power to bring God back into the forefront, but how much, exactly, I can not quantify easily.

I do not understand it. I cannot understand how people can separate their feelings about other human beings based on a line drawn on a map. Our children matter (as long as guns aren't taken away, of course), but other children are just viewed as a nuisance or worse.

I'm no longer religious, but I cannot figure out how so many religious people (obviously not all) read the New Testament, proclaim to love their god and his children, and then treat anyone who is not like them as less than human. If there is a god and a judgment day, I don't think it is going to go down as they expect - unless their god is like them, of course.

Soooooo like.... is the Republican Congress gonna look into this?

Or are we just gonna carry on as usual and wait another day or two and be overrun by the next trump scandal?

You know the answer.

"The children will be taken care of — put into foster care or whatever" - Trump CoS John Kelly when asked about what would happen to the migrant children seized from their parents.

He's not even pretending to care. The brazen callousness of this administration makes me sick. What makes me even sicker is the millions of Americans who happily defend them.

*edit* Somehow I missed your post pointing this out haha.

It's not about a line on the map. Sociologists have a Classical Assimilation Theory, and in my experience that explains the basis of what drives the anti-Mexican culture, combined with hard liners who just can't stand an open border policy.

CAT is interesting. It's outdated, but so are those driven by it.

Of all the ridiculous tweets this might be his most infuriating. Blaming the minority party for his policy (which isn't even a law, really). It's such a cowardly lie, I'm not even sure who he is trying to fool with it.

Evil is banal, and that's how it can sneak into leadership in a nation like our own, where the candidates run with strategies on how to capture the emotions of voters, People will miss what's happening until it's too late. Celebrity culture gave an edge to a guy with a meanness streak like no other. Our reality TV President is the last such show we need to be seeing now. Chris Hayes was tough to watch, if you missed it, powerful piece, and this can't be how we do things.

Edit: I.m not seeing the link, and I'm not sure why. In any event, it was Friday's edition, and gut wrenching.

Edit: 6/14/18: Looks like the video @The Thriller posted has been removed. Here it is;

"That this policy is of the Trump administration's own origin was made painfully obvious when White House chief of staff John Kelly defended the "zero-tolerance" plan to NPR, asserting that separating parents from their children could be a "tough deterrent" to border crossings.
When NPR asked Kelly about opponents of the policy who say it is "cruel and heartless to take a mother away from her children," Kelly downplayed the criticism, according to an interview transcript released Friday.

"I wouldn't put it quite that way," Kelly said. "The children will be taken care of — put into foster care or whatever. But the big point is they elected to come illegally into the United States and this is a technique that no one hopes will be used extensively or for very long."

Realizing this policy has not played well with the American people, including some of those who hold more hardline positions on immigration, Trump decided that the best answer to this political quagmire was to lie.

It's telling that Trump resorted to falsehoods and fiction as opposed to using his executive power to end the policy. Trump would rather blame Democrats than to fess up to his own mistake. He would rather have children fall off the grid than appear sympathetic to Latinos".

I think "sociologists" with a theory are something else. What drives "the anti-Mexican" culture is professional management with an agenda to fundamentally transform America using Mexicans as change agents. The rhetoric they employ is racist, and they design to create class warfare they can use.

When we have veterans who have fought in one useless war after another trying to fundamentally transform other nations under the delusional rhetoric of fighting for America or fighting for Freedom...... oh no, not another rabbit trail in these woods.....how am I gonna get out?

OK to cut it short. We have solid Americans literally dying waiting for the VA to provide care at the same time we have Mexicans filling up our hospital emergency rooms getting instant care with no questions asked. Don't tax us and then spend our money treating us as second-class. Americans generally are one class of humans. People who know when they are being mistreated.

It's the differential treatment tax payers see which drives what critics want to label falsely as some kind of racist problem.

I favor limited government because it's less useful to big-headed idiots with dreams of fundamentally transforming us.

Please keep your insane ******** out of my threads. Thanks.

Here's another bit of Sonny. I think this is relevant to the immigration world-wide where people on the ground are on the move, because the reason people do it is Capitalist. Not Communist, not any kind of socialist. And Not "Management" agenda. These people, coming to some place of economic better opportunity, are fundamentally capitalist. They are there for Capitalism.
