It cannot possibly be that difficult to understand that either Williams or Hendricks could start next to Lauri next season. It does not change Lauri’s role in the slightest.

Then it should be called the battle of Williams vs Lauri for the SF position. Expecting that a rookie can dislodge the leader of the team from his most natural and clearly preferred position (where he became an All-Star, no less) over the course of his first months in the league...is something.

I don't know what he was nominally but in 22-23 he started first with Kessler-Vanderbilt and then with Kessler-Olynyk. It was Vanderbilt and Olynyk who matched with the opposing PFs. Lauri is not great defending strong and/or physical PFs and it is easier for him to overwhelm the SFs on his drives to the basket. . He can play the 4th but a lot of his height/strength advantage is lost against them.

In general, star veterans do not want to play out of their preferred positions and usually push back on those attempts, see AD.

We need to let the young dudes play this year, take their lumps, develop and see who should be considered a legitimate piece for us going forward.

But we will probably start the year playing Mills, Clarkson, Sexton, and Collins heavy minutes while winning just enough games to screw us out of the Flagg sweepstakes.

Isn’t it obvious? Lauri played HORRIBLE with Simone because he had to play PF and that’s why he was so happy to see him traded. Lauri can only play SF and will be unhappy if forced to play the 4 with Cody instead of the 3 with Hendricks. This is a massive deal. It is straight up disrespectful to Lauri to play Cody and take away his rightful position.

I haven’t watched Cody play other than some highlights. I read an article talking about the potential for the jazz to have a very big lineup if they played Key, Cody, Hendricks, Lauri, Walker
Is this something that is feasible or is Cody too slow to play the 2 guard position?

Not feasible right now, but maybe at some point in the future. I think Key would have to do too much there atm.

I mean, that's what they have shown they want to do to an extent. They want to put a lot on Keyonte's plate. Not like winning is the goal, so anything is technically feasible.
