I think the issue is if you start him and you lose a ton of games, that's not going to do anything for his value as he will still be seen as he is currently seen by a lot of people, a good stats/bad team player? Like what are the odds he has a better statistical season, at least in terms of efficiency, than last year?If we're not even going to give Sexton the chance to be a starter, we should have traded him already. If you don't believe in him, just trade him, but to just keep him around as a 6th man for no reason is just poor management.

If he's the 6th man and excels in that role then teams may see his value being higher? Any playoff team who trades for him is going to be putting him as their 6th man, I would assume. Maybe the Spurs really exceed expectations to a wild degree and they decide they want to add Sexton? I struggle to think of a playoff team who would view Sexton as their starting PG, maybe the Magic? But every podcast I listen to they talk about how Orlando purposefully didnt pursue a PG because they really want the ball in Paoloa/Franz's hands.
At least that's the only spin I can really think of, but the same can be said for Clarkson as a starter vs bench role, so idk.
I mostly agree with you here.If he fails as a starter, the result will be teams thinking he's a 6th man. In other words, you are guaranteeing the negative scenario for the Jazz without giving yourself the chance of having the positive which is that he continues to prove himself as a starter or more. He played extremely well as a starter, but one of the main reasons his trade value is still not amazing is because he hasn't done it for a full season. I think continuing his play will go a long way in terms of proving it wasn't a fluke and make more teams believe.
Maybe teams will simply never believe in Sexton as a starter, but playing him as a starter will not make them think less of him as a 6th man. I don't think playing him as a 6th man does anything for his value except guaranteeing it won't increase.
Personally, I've gone back and forth on Sexton. I can see the rationale for being high and low on him....but if he's here, you've at least got to give him the chance. Keeping him here and solidifying the low end outcome just isn't good management IMO.
I mostly agree with you here.
I'm high on Sexton. I wish he was a more cerebral defender, because unlike most, I believe in him as a lead guard, especially with an offense formed around drive/kick with Lauri.
Sure but pushing too much on his plate doesnt necessarily lead to the best development curve.I mean, that's what they have shown they want to do to an extent. They want to put a lot on Keyonte's plate. Not like winning is the goal, so anything is technically feasible.

But if we push too much on a guy (Key or whoever) there is a high chance he will look bad just because of the waters being too deep.I agree, but not sure how the Front Office/Will Hardy feel about it.
The one major drawback to our current position is that we are not really able to be super patient with development. We won't have enough roster spots for all of our incoming picks and so we need to know who are keepers and who are not. I assume that Lauri isn't going to be eternally patient either, and so sooner than later we need to know who matches his timeline.

What do you do then? Pay him or give up?
Here you go:I wish we had more buzz around OTA's. I know most of the team is in Utah. Who is looking good? I'm dying for any kind of hype.

I do love the idea of having Sexton around with all the young guys if nothing else for his work ethic to rub off.
