Drafttec has Cleveland taking pick one and two in their mock draft based on the following trade they feel is all but a done deal:

DET-MIN-CLE trade
This week we simulate a popular trade rumor that's been in circulation as of late. Goes like this - Detroit gives up their #8 overall to Cleveland in exchange for the Cavs assuming the big contract of Rip Hamilton. The Cavaliers would then trade the #8 (from Detroit) and their own #4 to Minnesota for the T-Wolves #2. Cleveland would then possess the top 2 picks in the draft. Our mock draft below simulates how the NBA draft might play out under that trade scenario. They have Cleveland taking Irving and Williams one and two. They have us taking Knight at 3 and Minnesota taking Kanter at 4 and Jordan Hamilton at 8.

I fully expect Minnesota to trade the number 2 pick to someone and the above trade may be it.

Well a 6'9 Dwight Howard is going to be much less effective than a (near) 7 foot Dwight Howard. Still good, but he near as dominant, so it's not that unrealistic.

You don't block shots, rebound, or score with the top of your head though. Biyombo's length and innate strength would allow him to be an above-average C just in terms of size without even factoring in his quickness and explosiveness. Thanks to his relatively short legs for a player of his reach, he has elite footspeed, quick and powerful leaping ability, and general strength with a low center of gravity.

I'm not saying he will be Dwight, but I could see him being close to the same player. It's not like Dwight came into the league all roiding huge with a polished game of any kind either. As far as I can glean, he was drafted for his physical attributes and good head on his shoulders.

Just watched the Charles Jenkins interview on DX. Impressive. If he and Reggie Jackson are really around in the late 1st/early 2nd, I would hope the Jazz would buy a pick to get one of them, especially if neither of their first two picks is used on a point guard. Both are strong and can shoot lights out. Could be perfect in two guard sets flanked by Gordon Hayward.

9' 3.5" standing reach


Bismack Biyombo
240 lbs.
6' 7.75" w/out shoes
6' 9" with shoes
7' 7" wingspan
? Standing reach

since it didn't give Bismack's standing reach I compared his height to Dwight (- 1.25")
And then compared his wingspan (+ 2.5")

You look at height and the reflex is to shy away from Biyombo, but as long as he keeps his hands in the air Bismack can actually reach 1.25" higher than Dwight.

This aint exact or anything and maybe we'll get Bismack's actual standing reach outta EuroCamp soon, but based on this little exercise the description on DX of a "6' 9" version of Dwight Howard" might be misleading one into thinking you're getting a "Dwight lite." Bismack's standing reach is probably longer than Dwight's.

This article is from walterfootball.com. I like these guys when it comes to fantasy football so I checked their nba stuff and found this article on Knight. It actually captures my feelings on Knight quite well. I'm not a hater - I just want more value out the 3rd pick.

Just to nitpick on the quote about this being a historically bad draft. Obviously, it does not look good, but you have to give a draft at least three years later before we really know. What if 3 or 4 of the intl players turn into stars.

Oh thanks GVC. It looks like Bismack's standing reach is a half inch shorter than Dwight's, so my conclusion was way off. Nevertheless, the difference between the two is miniscule.

I'm on the Jenkins bandwagon. If the Jazz are acquiring a third pick to get him, then I'd go ahead and do it even if we draft Knight. Then you can trade the **** out of Harris (Matthews, please). Knight's ability to play some minutes at the 2 justifies picking both of these high-character guys.
