What's new

2013 MLB Postseason

I'm just here to root against the Dodgers and bag on them. You know, have to keep up the hate between Dodger and Giant fans.

Go Braves!

I do think they should drop the play in game and just go with best record. I guess I could see a play in game if they had the exact same record.

I guess I can root for a Braves/A's series with the A's winning it all.

Figured the Pirates would take it last night, Liriano's been bomb all season. Baseball is so unpredictable. All the NL series' look to be brutal and if the Indian's win tonight they will probably get destroyed in the first round.
I ****ing hate the Cardinals, but I will say Tigers over Cardinals in the world series. I expect to be wrong.

Goddamnit The Cubs Suck!

The point of the Wild Card game is to reward division winners.

Think of it like how the top 2 teams from each conference in the NFL get first round byes.

I like it. It keeps more teams in the playoff race longer and makes it crazy important to win the division.

Woah woah woah. People like you are Lakers fans!

I will hate the Dodger's as well. Giants are my second favorite team, which makes the Dodgers my 4th-least-favorite team. Bought a solid team, but too many douches. Gonzalez is a professional hitter, and Kershaw is impossible to dislike because he's just so freaking good. But Ramirez and Puig are untested prima donnas who are looking to implode this postseason (at least I hope).

Really? You're going to alienate one of the few passionate baseball fans on the board?
I am a huge Cubs fan, the rest of my family are Giants fans. I've lived in California and Iowa. Makes sense to me

Sorry man. I said some things i didnt mean, and for that I am sorry.

As a friend, I respectfully ask that you refer to the Cubs as your favorite team and the Giants as a team you pull for. The whole 2nd favorite team thing is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Is it okay to refer to "Whoever plays the Warriors" or "Whoever plays the Redskins" as My Second Favorite Team this year since my favorite team(s) owns their respective 1st round pick?

This format does not reward division winners. St. Louis will still play Pittsburgh.
I can see the Tampa Bay/Cleveland play in if they end with the same record, but they didn't.
Cleveland should just move on to play Boston, instead they have to play one more play in game and beat TB just to get to a spot they already earned imo.

I just think the 2 play in games are a waste, and yes I understand it gives 2 more teams some hope.

It doesn't really extend the playoff race, and actually makes it less important to win the division.

Please step down from your high horse. You know you want to see the Lakers lose. How does that make you any different than me in this instance?
How about the Warriors? Would it please you if they had a crappy season and lost a lot?

tbh I don't really care about the Dodgers, guess I'm not a true Giants fan eh? Was just prodding YB a bit. He can take it, he's too smart to react, plus it helps that he has a good team this year.

I still do hope the Braves beat them, but if the Dodgers win I won't cry about it. This whole Giants/Dodgers fan craze is a bit out of hand lately if you ask me, kind like BYU/Utah. Maybe the Dodgers and Giants should take a 2 year hiatus.

I have no issues with this.

Have you suffered a concussion recently? How the hell would it make it LESS important to win the division??

I can see how someone would think adding more wild card teams makes it less important to win the division, cuz well there is like more teams in the playoffs n stuff. Not the case!

Before the 2nd wild cards were added, the only difference between winning the division and getting the wild card was that you would have a lower seed in the playoffs. Playoff seeding in baseball doesnt mean 1/10th of what it does in basketball however, so it didn't used to matter all that much whether you won the wild card, or you won your division, as long as you were in the playoffs.

Now, winning the division is HUGE. If you don't win the division you are in a 1 game playoff.

At face value, it seems like baseball purists would hate it, but when you dig a little deeper and think about it, it's a great way to have wild card teams, but reward division winners (what baseball purists have been wanting.)

I think it's great just from the standpoint of rewarding division winners, then when you factor in how fun the wild card races are at the end of the year and how insanely intense a 1 game playoff is, it's one of the best things to happen to baseball in awhile.

Teams I want to win it all Power Rankings

1) A's

2) Rays

3) Indians

4) Pirates

5) Braves

6) Tigers

7) Dodgers

8) Cardinals

9) Red Sox

Of the wild card teams, in 18 years 9 have made it to the World Series and 5 of those have won it. One year two wild card teams played in the World Series.

I suppose this is why the Division winners want a little extra help. They put all their effort into winning during the regular season they can't seem to have enough gas to consistently beat these "less good" wild card teams.

I see what you are saying about forcing the wild card teams to play and risk being bumped because they were not good enough to win the division, but it's always not fair in one way or another. Now it's not fair to the wild card team with the best record if the second wild card team knocks them off. What's next, allow 3 per league and have a play in to get to the real play in? The two wild cards are neato and all, but I'll tune in for an actual series. I'm sorry but one game is not a "playoff".
