Of the wild card teams, in 18 years 9 have made it to the World Series and 5 of those have won it. One year two wild card teams played in the World Series.
I suppose this is why the Division winners want a little extra help. They put all their effort into winning during the regular season they can't seem to have enough gas to consistently beat these "less good" wild card teams.
I see what you are saying about forcing the wild card teams to play and risk being bumped because they were not good enough to win the division, but it's always not fair in one way or another. Now it's not fair to the wild card team with the best record if the second wild card team knocks them off. What's next, allow 3 per league and have a play in to get to the real play in? The two wild cards are neato and all, but I'll tune in for an actual series. I'm sorry but one game is not a "playoff".
The thought process is that if you don't win your division you have no gripe either way. Of course if there is someone that its "unfair to" it should be the wild card team, not the division winner.
You're crazy if you don't want to watch a one game playoff series. High drama.
