2014 College Football

jazzman, what do you THINK will happen? Think BYU would keep their TV station (that no one watches except when there's football on)? Think BYU would give it up to join the Big 12? Would it only be for Football or for all sports? If the Big 12 expands and doesn't include BYU, who would they actually invite?

Lastly... You folks play CSU. What's your take on that? You know how MWC teams get fired up to knock out a big conference team. Initially my take was Utah got screwed. But in all actuality, CSU is pretty good. Should be entertaining even though CSU doesn't exactly have a big name.

CSU is good and could beat Utah. I hate the match-up because it's a lose-lose for Utah. If they beat CSU, nobody cares. If CSU wins, it's considered a big upset and Utah has egg on their face. Would much rather be in the Cactus Bowl vs OK State.

As far as what I think will happen with BYU: I'm split 50/50 on whether or not the Big 12 invites them. I'm sure BYU will drop their tv demands, which helps out big time, but they still pose logistical problems as far as Sunday play goes. I think Cincinnati is an easy choice because they're a decent program and they already have West Virginia in that region. I do think a school like UCF could derail BYU's hopes. Having a Florida school in the conference is probably more attractive tv wise as well as with recruiting.

If BYU does get in, I'm almost positive it will be as a full member. All of their other sports programs are in good shape and I couldn't see the Big 12 wanting a football only member.

Thriller, serious question:

If the Big 12 expands without BYU, what would you like to see BYU do? My guess is playing in the MWC or AAC has got to be better than staying Indy.

Cancel sports like they did at BYU Hawaii. If BYU insists on playing by their own rules, let them play ward football. If conferences want to schedule games on Sundays, whether that be football or basketball and BYU doesn't want to go along, then they should take their balls and go home. Let them become an academic-only institution. They always preach "they're in the world but not of the world." Can't have it exactly as you want it.

BYU was arrogant when they turned independent. They wanted the MWC conference to revolve around them and not have to share bowl or TV revenue. BYU got EXACTLY what they deserved. Karma's a bitch and they got bitch-slapped hard.

My fear is that the Big 12 will just look to grab to carcasses to expand and will pick 2 easy schools, Cinn and UCF. BYU might have too much baggage. If I'm the Big 12 President, this might be the best option. Of course, BYU would be a huge money maker. But I'm not sure if the baggage is worth it.

So they play again and both look like ****. You act as if the winner automatically goes to the playoff. I disagree with that notion.
I think a tcu baylor winner in a conference championship gets in.... automatically.

Just my opinion

Playing in and winning a conference championship game helps reveal how good a team is, something that Big 12 teams weren't able to do.

Let's say you are judging a "hottest girl alive" contest. There are 6 girls remaining and you have to choose 4 to go into the final round.

4 of the girls waltz in front of the judges in bikinis and they look flawless (play in conference championship game and win). The other two girls stay fully clothed.

"But this is a hottest girl alive contest, not a bikini contest! Just choose the hottest girls! Not the ones who wore bikinis cuz it don't matter!" -LazyD

Seeing the 4 girls in their bikini, in a way you didn't get to see the other 2 girls, revealed just how hot the 4 girls were.

The conference championship is the biggest showcase of the season, the grand finale.

The Big 12 was like, "nah, we'll just skip that. LOL."

That might have worked to their benefit under the BCS where teams were largely just trying to NOT lose games, but as has just been proven, a committee of humans isn't gonna play dat weak ish.
Lol great post

This is the best chance yet BYU is going to have to get into a P5 conference. A little advice, don't act like a prima donna. Make BYU football relevant again by making the concessions you can make to make it easier for an invite to the BIG 12. That or continue down the road of mediocrity.
For sure

Byu needs to bow down, beg and plead and do anything and everything to get into the big 12 if given any chance at all

Okay, so all I'm getting is that the majority of folks feel like picking the four best teams is a secondary goal for the committee? That would be disappointing if true.
I'm saying the committee is made up of humans...... humans with agendas..... biases....... favoritisms....... criteria differing from what you or I think they should have.

Seems like conference championships matter to them from what I have heard from almost every sports media talking head, most every fan, most everyone.

I think it's true

The notion that the four teams must in essence be conference champions is absolutely stupid. It's really pretty simple. Pick the best four teams.

Yep.

Independence means the season is over after a loss. It's lame.

At least usu boise state ect still have something to play for

Ideally yes.

What's ideal rarely happens however and I noticed that every team in the playoffs also won a p5 conference championship.

I dont think it's coincidence that the one p5 conference without a championship game was left out
