2014 Draft Combine

I agree with the premise, but there is a "breaking point" where a guy is just too small to play a position. Randle for instance, was at that breaking point. Today he measured a little better than expected, and has probably cleared the breaking point. If he tests out well athletically, he can further clear it.

I guess Barkley would have been too small to play PF - or at too small to be any good at it, right?

James Young measuring out very well. As a SG has same wingspan as a couple lottery PF's (Randle, for one) and his standing reach is impressive too.

I suspect some scouts may drool over his measurables and how effortlessly he moves up and down the court and shoots the ball... void of having to play defense, pass, or dribble through traffic.

he was a one of a kind. dude was 290 ish before the draft, but he still moved like a deer. and one of the strongest dude ever walked on court. not everyone can be barkley.

shabazz napier - 5ft 11 barefoot, 6ft 1 with shoes.
Gary harris - 6ft 2 1/2 barefoot, 6ft 4 1/2 with shoes

congratulations on your 'i inserted dr. scholl insoles in my shoe, so people don't call me a midget' award

So you agree that there really isn't a "breaking point" where a guy is just too small to play a position? That there are other factors in play.

You're wise to take that stance.

there are always exception to the rule. we are splitting hairs, so a guy with ideal size is usually favored over a guy who doesn't have ideal size. and in a lottery pick, you don't want to pick 6ft 5 barefoot guy to play PF. it's too much of a risk. but again charles barkley, larry johnson, etc. there are exceptions.

and randle is not at the breaking point. he has average PF size. but well below average PF hand size.

I think with McDermott, you're basically looking for the next Chris Mullin. Is he going to guard anyone? Not really. But he'll keep moving, use space really well to make up for his lack of quickness, and he'll still hit his first 6 shots.

Look at the athletes that the Spurs are putting on the floor. Tim Duncan doesn't get off the ground much any more. Tiago Splitter is an average athlete. Boris Diaw is chubby. Marco Bellinelli isn't anything special. Patty Mills is undersized. They just know how to play.

DX: Exum's lane agility is the best at this year's combine so far and just about on par with MCW last year. Guy's got good quicks.

Uh, Marcus Smart. Dude is 6'3" 230, jumps 36" and lane agility is faster than Wall, Westbrook and CP3.

Freak.

I like how Jay Williams was ripping on teams for interviewing players. The reason they interview players is so they don't get stuck with wasting a high draft pick on someone like Jay Williams!!!
