What's new

2015 NBA Playoffs

I agree that MJ is still the GOAT, but I don't agree that the gap is anywhere near as large as you are arguing. First, I think it's incorrect that LeBron's competition is inferior. The east has been far inferior to the west for at least 20 years now. This is not a new situation at all. Second, you are over-inflating the importance of individual high scoring games. Three of your bullet points are about this. Winning the game is enough.Third, the categories that LeBron leads in are a big deal.

I'm surprised to learn that LeBron's 3 pt percentage is that bad. The defense should be giving him that shot all night long.

Eastern conference was very tough in MJ's era. MJ went through celtics & pistons. and then battled against tough teams like knicks and pacers. and many borderline teams like cavs, heat, hawks, etc were not an easy out too. and remember 90's had big tough guys in the middle. so, imagine bron struggling to shoot and he has to take it to the hoop - it sure won't be as easy as taking it to hordford less hawks.

talent gap between MJ and bron? there aren't much. you can even say bron is a better overall talent. but being the best at basketball? IMO, there is a clear difference between MJ and the other greats. i really believe if MJ didn't play baseball he would've easily had 7 championships maybe even 8. and if the band didn't break up in 98? Bulls could've easily won again in that short season of 99. i really doubt duncan & drob would've beaten the bulls.

and IMO scoring is important in the playoffs - much more so than the regular season. it far outweighs everything else especially if shooting % is high. scoring 40pts in 40 shots are bad. it can actually hurt the team. but if you look at MJ's scoring, he usually shoots very high % when he scores 40+ because he is feeling it.

and just take a look around. 40+ pt game stands out in the playoffs because it doesn't happen often. 50pts? even more rare. there were only 5 50+pts playoff performance since MJ retired from the bulls.

i know bron's game is not about scoring, but he is shooting .424%. and that hurts his case alot. he really is struggling from the field against a mediocre competition. so it really is going through a worst shooting slump of his career.

klay thompson needs to take over the game. he's been kinda disappointing in this playoffs. just let it go and drop bombs
