2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

It's a pipe dream but if I was DL I'd be calling the Magic to check the availability of one of their PFs. Gordon is uber athletic and is enough of a threat to space the floor as well as being able to handle a bit too as another ball handler in the offense, while Isaac/Gobert in the frontcourt would be stupidly hard to score on and Isaac doesn't need the ball to be effective.

This year Love has a 16.1 PER and a 0.050 WS/48, plus is injured right now. Favors is 20.6 PER and 0.182 WS/48. I know you love three-point shooting, but there needs to be some standards.

For those touting Trevor Ariza, He's at 10.3 and 0.027, and too small to guard starting 4s on the top teams.

You can show me every stat in the world, but the truth is known = Favors and Gobert do not share the court together that much at all in the playoffs vs very good teams. They simply don't succeed so Quin doesn't play them together. When GS trots out KD at 4 and Draymond at 5, Favors sits. Or when they play Iggy at 4. Same thing.

I don't think Ariza is a great player, but he is classic 3D. Since we have Gobert, we can actually afford to play smaller than a lot of teams. Ariza could easily play the 4 for us.

But overall, I think we need more than Love. I think we need more than Ariza. Our issue is at PG. It's a guard/wing league. A stretch 4 would be nice, but we need better guard play.

Aaron Gordon is such a ridiculous athlete. I was really hoping that Jonathan Isaac would break out this year and Gordon would be the odd man out, especially with Vucevic playing so well, but that hasn't happened unfortunately.

Regarding Kevin Love... I don't think the front office will trade for him, but I do think they may make a move that sacrifices defense for more offense, which I don't think they would have done last year. We can't let the game pass us by like the Jacksonville Jaguars did this year. They haven't been able to win games scoring on defense and ground-and-pounding like they did last year. The game changed so much this season and the same thing seems to be happening in the NBA.

Ricky Rubio's last 10 games:

15.5 pts, 5.6 asts, 3.9 rebs, 1.5 stls, 46% FG, 41% from 3

That's nice and all, but how many turnovers? Do the first 13 games of the season not count? How many times does his guy go right past him?

Unless we had KD at PF, Rubio is not good enough to take us to the next level. That's not being mean. It's just a fact. Rubio is not elite at anything. In the NBA playoffs, contenders don't throw "pretty good all around players" out on the court. They put specialists on the floor.

They play together about 12 minutes per game, at the start of the first and third quarters.

Those are bench units. Sometimes Favors is on the bench, sometimes Gobert.

4s can combo forwards still post up 2s in this league. Ariza is not even as large as Crowder, who was abused in the post by Turner against Indiana.

Agreed.

I'm not saying we shouldn't upgrade at the position, just showing that he isn't necessarily the train wreck he's made out to be all of the time.
