How does adding a great long defender who can shoot 43% from 3 not move the needle?

Because he can't create his own shot. Joe Ingles shot 44% percent from 3 last year. It didn't change the fact that we needed more shot creation ability. Kyle Korver has shot 40.8% from 3 since we traded for him. It hasn't changed the fact that we need more shot creation ability. OPJ shooting 43% from 3 for us wouldn't change the fundamental problem that we need more shot creation ability. Outside shooting is not our primary problem.

So Kyle Korver didn't move the needle for the Jazz? Did you miss the first of the season before the Korver trade? Mitchell can't do anything inside because the is no space. Yes, Jazz could use another creating playmaker, but to say that a 40 % 3 pt shooter that also plays good D doesn't move the needle is just plain wrong imo.

The Cavaliers are looking for another first-round pick and have been heavily involved in discussions centered on swingman Rodney Hood and shooting guard Alec Burks, league sources told Amico Hoops.

One of the discussions involved sending Burks to the Houston Rockets for point guard Brandon Knight and the Rockets’ first-round pick. But those talks have been put on pause, it appears, as the Cavs and Rockets may have found other spots for those players. (The Rockets are reportedly also talking to the Memphis Grizzlies about Knight.)

The Portland Trail Blazers are another teams said to be making its first-rounder available, and the San Antonio Spurs have two firsts (their own and Toronto’s) that are up for grabs. The Spurs have expressed interest in both Hood and Burks.

A few days ago there was talk of Locke mentioning a trade that would make us worse this year but better in the future and wondering who that could be. It’s now dawned on me. It’s a guy who plays the 4, rebounds well, shoots from deep, is currently injured (worse this year), and is under contract through 2030.

We failed to use expirings last year to get assets. We could have traded Thabo, Jonas, Udoh, even Favors to pick up a bad deal but also a good asset. We could have still kept Exum and Favors because we had their bird rights.

This year, we can trade Rubio, Favors, Thabo, Udoh or others and take a bad contract back while picking up an asset.

Favors for Olynyk and a pick

Favors for Mahinmi and Satoransky or Mahinmi and a pick

We aren't a free agent destination so we need to get assets when we can. Those assets can be used to make deals when they are available. If we had another 1st to deal right now, maybe we could have made a run at Porzingis or have a better shot at Jrue, OPjr.

I agree we need a shot creator but the spacing created by good outside shooting goes a long ways in making that happen.
